Imagine Zbrush on this new Interactive DISPLAY!!! ZOMG

I spotted this on Tweak! and it just blew my mind. It’s probably already made it’s rounds on these forums, but I wanted to post it anyway for those that haven’t seen it yet.

Btw, these displays are using the same tech as the Apple I-phone, and yes, they are pressure sensitive, so a 3D sculpting application like Zbrush or Mudbox would benefit from this if they were to support the interaction. VERY COOL! Painting in PS would be a breeze too, i would think… but then again, wouldn’t your arms get really tired?

Yeah must be hard for arms lol

Also notice they dont show any sculpting or painting program…
Only blobish and abstact fun…
I fear there must be a reason…

Yeah, there is no sculpting program that supports that kind of interface… that’s why I was saying it would be awesome of in the future Zbrush would be able to support it. Or at the very least, a robust sculpting app similar to Zbrush/Mudbox. Anyway, it opens the doors for new and exciting possibilities.

Yeah, we’ll all look like Arnold…
I tried to model using my beamer. That’s cool till I got motion sick when turning and twisting models. It’s quite radical on the psyche. Having a wall sized touch screen would be cool. One would use the scrubber to roll on the pixols.

Oh yeah, I just saw that myself the other day. Pretty neat.

I imagine that one would go through at least a couple of bottles of windex a week though.

Really cool stuff. Nice find.

I work for an organization that uses touch-screens an extreme amount in indoor/outdoor environments. Touch screen sounds great but it is hell on the monitors…the oils on your fingertips and the non-stop use really plays havok on the glass surface after a while.

There is no reason, except the multipoint capability, that this sort of interface couldn’t be used with existing 3D apps. Looks essentially like a multi-axis 3D controller capability that might require some programming on the interface side to send the correct commands to the app.

Looks cool. Did they develope their own operating system to be able to do this? I also wonder what kind of machine you need to be able to do these kinds of things in real time. It must take a lot of computing power.

I want one.

I’ll take it off of your hands if you’re done with it.

it looks cool, but somehow it just doesnt strike me as very practical after watching that demo…

the constant mess of fingerprints has already been mentioned… also alot of people dont like touch screens (myself included) as I don’t like my own hand or pen tip blocking my view of the screen as I’m trying to work… I’ve actually tried working with a Cintiq but decided I like my Intuous better, even for 2d sketching

I think there are some really interesting possibilities with this technology, but not enough to outweigh the obstacles that I see

I think instead of this, implants are going to be the future… perhaps farther in the future than this technology, but for instance I roleplayed a character once who had tiny implants in his fingertips so that he could simply tap on any hard surface and it would act as a keyboard… and these implants would communicate wirelessly with his computer sunglasses

and we can even get wilder than that… there have been successful research studies in the last few years with direct mind control… they’ve done successful brain implant operations on chimps which allowed them to control a robotic arm with their mind… and more recently, a young child was able to play Space Invaders with his thoughts

oh I almost forgot to mention intelligent computers which learn your personality, schedule, and habits and adapt to them… the character with the sunglasses I mentioned had an artificial intelligence in his computer whom he assigned computing tasks to all the time… like “hey program me this” or “look up directions to this place and guide me” or “hack into this server and steal me some data”

I see no reason these things cant become commonplace someday
