Hi
First
For you drawings try this Site (3 images by day by section 3dcommune.com (there is 2D section too
Second
Zbrush is pecfect for artistic research visual  (see my Speedy gallery
Third
Zbrush is the new standard for the organic modeling!
It’s better if you have no experience with another 3D prog  So, you know the cars prog : forget it
With your experience of known anatomy you will make some crazzy things with the Sculpture “real time”
Have happy Zbrushing!

Hey Kolbrooky we seemed to have followed the same path, I used to draw loads as a kid then left school to do welding & metalwork.
I’ve been using a computer for my artwork for about 2 1/2 years now.
I’ve built my own website & used all my spare time to create stuff & it’s beginning to pay off, I’ll never earn a living at it I reckon but at least I now get paid to do something I love to do
Build up a portfolio of 2D & 3D images, get a website, post work on forums to get noticed & critiqued, sign guestbooks on other artists sites to up the traffic to your site, be patient & enjoy it.
I would recommend getting ZBrush 2, Silo3d for some modelling & photoshop for some additional post work.

Good luck mate

Welding’s 3D. It all comes in handy as experience. Check out some of the 20th Century sculptors who use/used it if you haven’t already done so.

Give ZBrush’s 2.5D a good try as well as the 3D. Also there’s a couple of sketch plugins here somewhere.
