Recently me and me ol’ sister had one of our little movie days. Our original topic was Bad Science Fiction Movies. We got a bit sidetracked and got Citizen Kane and 2001. Our other movies were Plan 9 from Outer Space, Dune, and The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonza. In case you can’t tell from my signature, I really love the Dune books (Frank Herbert), but really I thought the movie would be awful. To my complete amazement, it’s a work of genius! For a movie it got so much of the book (Dune) into it. Right, so my point is: Go watch Dune!
(Not to say the other movies aren’t great too, (except for Buckaroo) but I mean 2001 is supposed to be good.)
All in all a pointless post, but really, get Dune. I believe it says on the cover "The most Spectacular Motion Picture Ever!) It ain’t far off.
Enough of my babbling.
Which version of Dune did you see? The original, starring Patrick Stewart and Dean Stockwell (among others), or the much more recent Sci-Fi Channel miniseries version starring William Hurt?
Although I’ve never read Dune, I have seen both versions of the movies and have to agree that they are excellent. Overall, I liked the Sci-Fi channel version the best, although I found the ending of the classic version to be much more satisfying emotionally.
Aurick, I think that he’s referring to the David Lynch production starring Kyle Mclachlan. I love everything by David Lynch, and it’s too bad that his Dune flopped at the boxoffice.
Hey Muvlo, This place, Seitch Tabr that your from sounds very literary. Is it a real place or from a book?
Yes, the David Lynch version. I haven’t seen the other one. (Yet.)
Oh yes, Tabr is from Dune. Didn’t you know I’m from another planet?

I was really suprised to see Patrick Stewert in Dune. I didn’t know he was in it, and kept expecting him to say “I am Jon Luc Picard of U.S.S. Enterprise!”
Muv, where the heck have you been, being a fan of Dune, the novel? That movie came out a LONG time ago! But you’re right on the money, it was a GREAT flick, even if it did disappoint at the box office. Pretty faithful to the original story, especially by today’s standards, where complete destruction of a concept is common practice, to insure a director’s “mark” on a movie!
Hi Nikko. Well, I only discovered the Dune books --I think-- last year. Actually, someone else discovered them for me.
Yes, I thought that was neat, how it stayed with the book. Too bad he didn’t do movies of the other five.
I wonder what other Lynch movies are like. Anybody else seen any?
David Lynch = Wierd. No way around it.
Most of his movies have been outstanding, but not for everyone. Blue Velvet is my favorite. And, of course he did the Twin Peaks series, which I also liked, for the most part.
