illustrator path too ZBrush?

Is there a way to import an illustrator path to ZBrush 2? Or do I have to do it in an other 3D app, and import as a tool?

the path looks like this:

![bunny.gif|404x421](upload://1OcDzB9jmJvyShPNdC8FeZqyIdB.gif)

It depends what you want to make with it:
you can export it as an .jpeg import it as an alpha - and use Make3d to get an Objekt
if you have the alpha you can use it as an stencil
if you import it as an texture you can use transparency (with a plane)

Why not just import an alpha?

You have to import it as an alpha and then make transform the alpha to 3d (if that´s what you want), just import it and press the make 3d button, you can configure the new 3d object proprietys in the alpha menu (before transphorming it to 3d, I think  )

I´ve tried the import alpha and “make 3d” from there. But It aint precise enough for my use it seems, I have to play around with it some more…

I also tried to make a 3d object with cinema 4D, but it became all messed up when I took it in to ZBrush again. All tringular polys.

I want to give the “bunny” a buffed gold appearence. Something like so: gbunny.jpg

But I need it to be more precise, in that on I did ALOT of ps work on it.

Thanks for the input so far

Make sure you have 0, or no anti aliasing on that alpha, and very sharp edges.

To get a more precise shape when using Alpha : Make3D you need to increase the Alpha : Mesh Resolution (Mres) to its max. In the case of fonts and cookie cut outs like your alpha you should decrease the Alpha : Mesh Depth Resolution (Mdep). In most cases you do not need a high mesh resolution on the sides of text.

Alpha[color=Black] : Mesh Smoth (MSm) is normaly ok at the default value of 10. If you have a very low Mesh Depth Resolution (2-3) you might need to decrese it.

But all of this also depends on the alpha that you are “make3D” 'ing. If the alpha has alot of antialiasing on the edges of the alpha you need to lower the Mesh Smooth, If it is very coarse you might need to increase it.

If you want to increase the depth of your object after Make3D you can use the Tool : Deformation modifiers. You will probably want the Size modifier but the Inflate modifier might also serve you. Trial and error is the best tutor. If you Make3D half a dozen alphas you should get the feel for it.

Hope you do not mind but I tortured your bunny. It was not intentional. It was just one change that led to the next and suddenly Bunny was half way between hell and heaven.

I am not making a statement, it just sort of happened. :) I have nothing against bunny. [![PurgatoryBunny.jpg|618x480](upload://ygy5i7HGJN6xdjXBNvhKP6UNs4b.jpeg)]

if you just want to “paint” the bunny instead un making it 3d use it as a stencil!
Then try play with the brushes and materials

Sorry for interupting this post but I have to thank TVeyes for the laugh he gave me… love the humour:laughing: :+1:

TVeyes! LOL  That´s just cool of you. Thanks! And answers my question and then some

If anybody is wondering, the picture is a logo for a piece for the stage: ”The Playboy Of The Western World” by John M. Synge. That is localised too Sámi. They wanted an “ad busting” type of thing…

I’ve always found that illustrator or any vector program is good for creating stencils where you need accuracy.

Hi ailu,

"Make 3D "from Alpha is a great way to use these sort of images !
I (mis) used your Bunny to shamelesly promote my woodmaterial , gold is not
in fashion these day’s.

I used" spherize" as a deformation on the mesh

wood bunny.jpg

jantim, funny. That is the fist material I thought of, and tried on bunny too. The scene I made was practically identical. I didn’t save mine though.

Funny how Zminds think alike.

Gold is absolutely not in fashion, but it´s supposed too be a flashback to the swingin 70´s kinda thing. Groovy baby, yeah  Ill post it when im done with it.

Jantim,

That´s wicked cool by the way :+1:

Hello, I found this thread and I have a question. I cannot find the Mesh Res and Depth option before making Alpha to 3D? Where is it? Thanks.
