I want to dig without affecting both sides as shown in this image.

Digging a groove with a brush affects both sides.
Is there a way to make a groove without affecting both sides?

When using the sculpting brushes, you can create different affects by applying different alphas to the brush. Probably the easiest way to achieve the affect you’re looking for here is to replace the alpha of the Dam Standard brush with something like this:
You may have to rotate the alpha to get the desired effect.
