Hi every body, I have a question for mac users, I want buy a mac for run zbrush in mac , because I love the mac but can You recommend me what Is better ,
mac book pro 15.4"/2.4GHz/2GB/200GB/256MB VRAM
or
Imac 20"/2.66GHz/2GB/320GB/SDrive/ATI RadeonHD2600 256VRAM
I dont have idea what is better, because I had one macbook pro but the graphic card was 128 mb and the work is slow, so, what mac recommend me …??

I use a similar MacBook Pro (the previous generation to the current) as my portable studio (with a Wacom 12wx), but for the heavy stuff I’m currently use a quad-Xeon Mac Pro. Not sure I’d recommend the iMac–it’s a very serviceable machine, but the portability of a Notebook seems like a big benefit. I’d bump the RAM to 4GB when you get a chance. OWC (macsales) usually has a good price on RAM (www.macsales.com) and 4GB kits are less than $60 US. The 6GB kit would be cool, but I think you’ll get ding’d for a lot on the 4GB stick you need to upgrade the latest models, while the 2 x 2GB is much more reasonable.

They’re lovely machines BUT
Way overpriced
There’s not enough software for them. Their market share is too small to make it worthwhile for a lot of developers to specifically create software for them.
Not that I’m a Vista fanboy but them’s the brutal facts.
oh i don’t know. they’re up to something like 9% market share now which ok, is still in the minority. sure there’s no Max or XSI but there’s ZB, Maya, Modo, Lightwave, Silo, Houdini, Blender, Unity, PShop and so on. games don’t usually get ported but a lot of work software does. plus you can put windows on an intel if you really do need it.
not that i’m a Mac fanboy but some of them facts aren’t that brutal. they are over priced tho

if you go iMac, I’d check on the 24 over the 20. yeah it’s a little more cash but last i heard the 20 has an 18 bit monitor. the 24 isn’t the greatest monitor but at least it can do true 24 bit color. for me it’s worth the price dif. that all might have changed in the latest gen. i’d check it out…
thanks , My software favorite is maya, modo,zbrush,and zbrush,photoshop, and there are more software in mac that I love, so pete330, you have reason, if I need another software, I can use the paralles or the boot camp, but what recomend me imac or macbook pro? I will check the imac 24" the problem is the expensive:( but thanks for you opinion.
i think it depends on if you want portability. if so then the MacBook. if it doesn’t matter then maybe the iMac. slightly faster, bigger screen. other than that iMacs and MacBooks basically use the same stuff inside. zbrush doesn’t beat on the graphics card. more ram & faster cpu make it run faster.
