Hi,
I am VERY new to this forum and would not like to say anything out of place but either I am totally useless, or someone is “pulling my leg”
There seems to be a LOT of artwork on here that states “My 1st ZBrush …” or something, yet really looks nothing like my 1st attempts…or 2nd or 3rd
Or am I maybe looking at Models that have been imported from elsewhere then “re-arranged” in ZBrush… If so I think that should be stated, but suppose that is a personal matter.
They are just not mentioning that :
- They consider it their first “real attempt”
- That it took about 3 months to make
- That it is their first attempt under that name.
Luck.
edit: I like the ones that say they were done in about
5 minutes, when the artist had probably spent about twenty
hours on the eyes alone.
Usually what you’re seeing is people’s first attempts at “Zbrush”. Not necessarily their first attempts at art, be it 3D or 2D (Digital or Traditional). I doubt it’s a deliberate deception to make people think their “better” than they should be. However, if it is such deception, then I wouldn’t fret about it.
I personally share your point of view Chad. I did some photoshop before trying Zbrush, so I guess it helped me a bit starting with this great 3D program. I think a lot of people here are simply “artists”, in the good sense of the word, i.e. they simply love art as a way of expression: they don’t necessarily want to appear as geniuses but simply have fun. This is what makes this forum such a great place to visit
.
I recently posted a picture I am rather happy with, and it’s only my second project in ZB. The morale of the story is not that I’m the new Da Vinci
, but rather that Zbrush is a great program that allows even beginners to express themselves quickly, and in such an intuitive manner that it allows to transfer what you have in your mind onto the screen (and even some things you would never have thought of
).
So Mr Dog, don’t be shy, post some of your work, and I’m sure it will be interesting to view if you put a part of you into it
Bye

Hi,
Am really glad to see this is a busy forum
But I think I should apologize for my post as I wrote what I thought at the time. I have cosidered things more, and there are many reasons why, and instead of thinking “why doesnt mine look like that” I should consider “what do i need to know to get it like that” - 1 more point - I’m not berating anyone importing models to use, that would be dumb and even if I were to do so- the results would not compare to any work I saw here.
I think maybe i’m awstruck at the art this beautiful software is capable of, and basically want to join in yesterday.
I think it was all too much having used Maya with only a bit of photoshop, and it’s a few years (many many) since I sketched, but for past few months I have again. Basically i’m an Old(ish?) dude who got ill, now i’m trying to retrain for something (As I ca’t do my old job now) and my only Hobby readlly is 2D and 3D art

This is a skull I ‘attempted’ - I am just at the stage of creating stuff and deleting it at the moment, have not done anything I really like, but I had problems a while (Because I hate reading manuals) - Now I find you can “selectively” subdivide the mesh I hope to get better - The skull went a bit wrong in texture maser… I’ll give it a few day’s/weeks/months see if |I can come up with something that I am actually proud of…
I love ZBrush and looking through the z-art - Awesome work guy’s - I’ll be glad if I get to be half as good.

Theres no rush… we’ll still be here
Hi,
I have a lot of ideas that I want to do in ZB, and I find it very frustrating at the moment not being able to express them in ZB… I know it’s practice, and tut’s and reading etc that will get me there, i just feel the need to create something at the moment so i’m going to try and calm down for a while in a well known 3D app - Then when I realise (I do now actually) that it’s impossible for me to create my “idea” it in that application it’ll be “Come back ZB all is forgiven”
Are they made from a plane or something? if you do not mind, I would love to know how they were made… Awesome …
Scraggy
hey scraggy-dog…
we all hit walls…we hit them especially hard when our expectations of ourselves exceed our current skills with anything let alone a new program.
I thoroughly understand your frustration at not being able to do what brings the bacon home and hoping that one’s loves can be one’s salvation. They can…but take it from me …don’t put that pressure on yourself. Don’t put that pressure on your desire to learn ZBrush because while it is extremely intuitive…it requires a letting go.
If you need to bring the bacon home yesterday…allow yourself to find a job that does that while pursuing the dream, enhancing your skills, learning, exploring etc as much as possible in your spare time.
If you don’t need to bring the bacon home…its even more important that you don’t place that pressure on yourself…it will kill your creativity.
I am an “oldish”
person who had to give up what they loved doing for similar reasons. I know that frustration and the pressure you can place on yourself to find both something you love to do and hope to excel at but find the will is greater than time life gives us.
My advice is learn the art of forgiveness of self, do what you can, and in the immortal words of my friend and fellow zbrusher…Bicc39…
Post post post…
and my words to him…and especially me!!!
Practice practice practice
it is truth for all we endeavor to do.
so keep your head up, fire up the patience machine, and allow yourself to fail…it will be the greatest gift you can give yourself!
Next to…why me?..is the ever more powerful…why not me? Answer that …and all becomes clear.
Hi,
Thank you very much for you kind words, and I don’t know how, but you saw right through me.
Practice makes perfect. =)
