I Am Spock....

One night I was watching reruns of Star Trek and got a strong urge to do a 3D sketch of Spock. I was intending on just doing a quick 2 hour sketch, but I just couldn’t stop myself and kept going. After 4 days, I had to move on to some other pending projects, but I finished him up as best I could in that time.

The rendering is done in ZBrush with several passes (shown below) then composited together in Photoshop. I added a very slight DOF effect using a ZDepth grab. Then painted over parts of the hair to soften the edge of his bangs. And also worked on the background in post.

Sweet! I hope I’ll be able to do something like that eventually! Keep it coming!

Fascinating.

HAH perfect first quote. Looks good, but i would say the skin detailing is a bit high…makes it seem more like a doll…also could come from the DoF

Spocktacular.

Absolutely Fabulous! One of my favourite actors perfectly captured! Fully understand that you chose to continue modeling mr. Nimoy. Hats off :+1:

McCoy: Shouldn’t you be working on your time warp calculations, Mr Spock?
Spock: I am. (He resumes staring into space)
Tomorrow is Yesterday

looks great. nice clean look to it.

Fine model, but I am drawn to the symmetrical pores on chin and nose, which are distracting.

Cheers,

R

Thanks for the replies. Did a quick Photoshop job to fix the symmetrical pores on the chin.

Here’s a turntable animation for the model.

Hmmm… just noticed that part of the skin on his neck is clipping the collar a bit. I’ll have to fix that at some point.

Yes facinating indeed. Love the turntable animation, though I did notice on the animation his collar seems to have a tear in it, was that intentional?

The creature within me is gone. I am free of it, and the pain. I am also quite blind. An equitable trade, Doctor. Thank you.
–Spock in ‘The Immunity Syndrome’

Excellent job on this sculpt. Great likeness. Love the shirt details, folds look real.

Fits right in with your work on Conan.

Top Row:+1: :+1: :+1:

 I didn’t foresee the Spock quotes would come out, but here’s mine. And it fits well with the community mentality.

“The needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many.” Considering how the members of this community continually give back and help others, it’s very fitting.

Yeah, I noticed that too, DigitalDreamer. It wasn’t intentional. Just an oversight on my part since I uploaded that animation to my server late last night. I’ll be uploading an new animation tonight which will have it fixed.

Wow Really cool KrakenCMT!!! Fantastic Model and Technique! I’m a fan of the Old Serie!

Long life and prosper…

:+1:  :+1:

To put up a Spock image and not expect Spock quotes is illogical.
(Sorry I couldn’t resist.)

By the way, I like the wrinkles on his uniform.

Looks great, good job

Here’s an untextured version. I also fixed the problem with the neck clipping the collar in the turntable animation.

Now I feel like busting out my ol’ VHS Star Trek collection…

Glad to see you fixed the neck clipping the collar.

I like the untexured version, though…

Fascinating is a word I use for the unexpected. In this case, I should think “interesting” would suffice.
Spock in ‘The Squire of Gothos’

“Mr. Spock, the women on your planet are logical. That’s the only planet in the galaxy that can make that claim.” – Kirk (Elaan of Troyius)

“Emotional, isn’t she?” – Spock

  • “She has always been so.” – Sarek
  • “Indeed. Why did you marry her?” – Spock
  • “It seemed the logical thing to do at the time.” – Sarek (Journey To Babel)
Ok, no more quotes, But keep up the good work KrakenCMT.

Superb work, the only little thing in my mind is the neck bump seems to strong but Im just observing from a novice position here!cal

I’ve had several comments about his skin, so I touched it up in Photoshop a bit to smooth out the bumps some. Also tried a bit of soft focus to soften the image up a little as well.

okay i’m only saying this stuff cause i’m a big trekkie, i’m even named after an TOS character,(my real name not my username), anyway. Spocks skin is greenish, you can see this more in the newly restored TOS episodes. Your model almost has him smiling, not that spock never did that but its atypical of him. Theres something weird about his cranium, it doesnt seem wide enough to me, also the top of the eyesockets are strange, and as calum said the neck bump is too strong. I know you did it quickly so i didn’t say anything before but now that you’re still messing with it…
I do like it very much though and i love how the background coloring is so reminiscent of those old cheap set backgrounds. Also might be cool if you show like the top of a tricorder at the bottom of the image as if he’s holding it.
hope this wasn’t too harsh"he knew where to hit us"-WOK
