ive just started on zbrush. and having an art background, find it very fluid and good. problem is when i import a 3d object with the 3d tool, i can sometimes not enter edit mode. also if i am making a scence using
more then one object, once i go to the second object, how can i select the previous one? also how do u rotate or move in the main viewport without disturbing the center of symmetry.
too many questions ? well there are more but that is because i am so excited about this …
hope to hear a reply from you guys.
Hi Dawgmatix, and Welcome to ZBrush Central!
>problem is when i import a 3d object with the 3d tool, i can sometimes not enter edit mode.
Make sure that you go into edit mode directly after you import your object. If you continue to have difficulties, please record a ZScript that illustrates this and send it to use so we can figure out the cause.
Here’s how you can record a ZScript:
-
ZBrush automatically starts recording a ZScript when you start ZBrush, so start ZBrush and import an object that you have had difficulty getting into edit mode.
-
Once you have imported your object and demonstrated that you are unable to edit the object, click on the ‘end rec’ in the ZScript Palette.
-
Save the ZScript, and email it to me along with the object, preferably in an archived format such as ZIP.

Download the ZBrush manual from the download page on the Pixologic website, and take a look at the chapter on markers. This will teach you how to re-select an object after it has been snapshotted to the canvas.
>also how do u rotate or move in the main viewport without disturbing the center of symmetry.
One way to rotate you object are by clicking outside your object while in edit mode, and dragging in the direction that you wish to rotate the object.
Another way is using the gyro. Take a look in the Transform Palette chapter of the ZBrush manual for more information about the gyro.
We hope to see some of your images posted here soon!
