Hey guys,
Never actualy looked into rendering DOF in zbrush, just wondering how people go about doing it ?
you could try the depth cue settings under render.
You can click and drag the depth value to select a part of your canvas for accurate values.
Make sure to turn on depth cue
Hey,
I was wondering actually how to produce this type of render pass when using it ?

Alpha -> GrabDoc and then export the alpha for a ZDepth pass that you can composite in an image editor.
ah, of course.
You will need either the zbr document with the depth stored or the ztl.
Either with the layer selected or the ztl dropped to canvas, use the MRGBZGrabber to marquee the entire canvas (one of the 2.5d tools).
This will spit out a texture and an alpha…the alpha is what you want.
It works well in photoshop as a mask for lens blurring, which I’m guessing is what you have in mind.
btw this tool will capture the depth down the z axis so useful also for making custom alpha brushes.
EDIT: lol just say the above post…yep that works too.

ahh i see now, thanks for the help
Or more easy:
Export your canvas via ZApplink to Photoshop and you’ll find the depth channel as an alpha channel in the Photoshop channel palette.
In Photoshop you could then use Richard Rosenman’s DOF Pro Plugin to create a nice depth blur in your image. Works like a charm.
It does work nicely although there are a few things worth mentioning.
Zapp link in zb 3.1 for windows, will disable perspective.
MRGBZGrabber will crop your image.
It is preferable to use the grab doc buttons under the alpha and texture palettes then export. (this will maintain canvas size and perspective).
Once in photoshop, you can apply DOF plugin as a filter then load your depth grab fro zb into DOF plugin.
Its a great plugin thanks for sharing
how to apply said depth render pass on Photoshop without any plugin?
