How to make eyeholes in a helmet

Hi,

I was thinking of making a helmet for Dota 2, and my question now is how I could do so in Zbrush.

How can I get holes for the eyes?

Here’s a really cool workflow video of a game artist working on a helmet, and right in the beginning you can see that he seems to cut away pieces of the mesh using what seems to be the clay buildup brush: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_gJMwJ-qE4

When I do that it just messes up my dynamesh.

Is there a way to get holes for eyes into a dynamesh or what would be the way to go about this?

Thanks!

As far as I can see he is using clay brush to push back stuff and reveal the face. I don’t see any holes. It won’t mess up the dynamesh.

Right, and how would one go about making holes in dynamesh for armor? For example the head and arm holes in chest armor and so on?

I tried just pulling dynamesh out and putting it together, then dynameshing it again. That works, but I’m not sure if that’s the correct/easiest way to do it.

There are multiple ways of achieving the same results. It depends on your personal preference which one to choose. But for putting a hole in a dynamesh you should pick another subtool that is the shape of the hole. Then make it a subtractive group either from polygroup subpalette or by little icon. Then just dynamesh again. The subtractive shape will make a clean hole. You could also inset mesh and hold alt then the inserted mesh will be subtracted after you redynanesh. You could also use bridge to make a hole in a mesh.
