How to Make 1 mesh instance along IMM curve

The feathers on the left of the image are what I get when I create an IMM curve brush. The single feather on the right is what I want to happen.

I am not looking to make a tripart brush. I want just a single copy of the mesh along the curve. The feather on the right was made with the bend curve deformer gizmo.

Hello @Nikolai_Strelioff ,

This is not currently possible. Curve mode repeats meshes along regular curve intervals that are tied to the spacing and resolution of the curve.

I might suggest that you already have the best tool for the job with the Bend Curve deformer. You could also rig it with a zsphere chain if you want more control.

If all you want to do is add a simple curve deformation to the mesh, this can be easily done with Gizmo and a soft falloff (Focal Shift > -100), or a move brush with a large radius. If you’re after something more complicated, perhaps if you wanted to elaborate we could offer some better suggestions.

I feel like this would be an easy and powerful thing to add into the software. Is there a way to request this as a feature? Zbrush can already bend each instance of a feather by cranking up the resolution in the brush modifiers tab.

Basically I want to define a mesh exactly how you do to create an IMM brush and then have the mesh be deformed along the curve drawn. Im working on a bird model and just had the idea to draw feathers along a curve to save time instead of inserting each mesh and then switching to the gizmo > bend curve to do each deformation. This method works well and get me to where I want to go, BUT if I’m trying to do a couple hundered feathers Im sure you could imagine how much time could be saved if I was able to just draw and line and have a feather be inserted along the middle of it!

Thanks for the quick reply

Easy and powerful are two different things, as are “possible” and “practical”

Sure! Feature requests can be submitted to Support by registered license holders. In this case though, consider it requested  . Yours is not the first such request.

Thank you!

Cool beans! You guys are rockstars!
