How to install Zbrush on AMD 64bit systems...

Hi all!

I just totaly crashed my new install of windows XP x64 edition by installing JAVA yesterday…

You need JAVA to install Zbrush, and there is no java for amd64 yet.

So how do you go about installing Zbrush? Simple,

You need a 32 bit Windows partition…

Just partition your hard disk into 2 or more parts… and install 2 versions of windows… 1 64 bit and 1 32 bit.

Install JRE from the 32bit partition, then install Zbrush, make sure you got Zbrush all installed and working, and then simply Boot into your 64bit partition, locate the Zbrush folder in the other partition, create your shortcuts, and run Zbrush  it will make you re-enter your POP information, and then it should run… Hell, not run, it will FLY!!!

Hope this helps someone out :sunglasses:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Or,

You can run the 32bit version of Internet explorer, and go to the Java website…

It will install a patched version for AMD64…
I really dont understand why they dont have this version in the manula download area…

The other way is so much more fun tho :), plus when you are done you have a nice place to install linux

Installing java web start (java.sun.com) and running it helps too.

Polaris30 - can you post a link to the java.sun site that has the version of java that will work with AMD64 version of windows XP64? I can’t seem to find one that has a proper VM for this OS.

thanks!

The AMD64 version is specifically for the AMD64 chips that came out a couple of years ago. It is NOT for the XP64 platform, and Sun has informed me that they have no intention of developing an XP64 version at this time.

We are currently working on an alternative activation for the XP64 platform that does not use Java, and hope to have something available to you soon.

THIS THREAD IS BUNK!!
