How To Highlight selected Subtool?

When using a lot of Subtools, I am always having trouble finding within the Subtools Palette, the object I have selected on my canvas.

  • Is there a way in the preferences, to make sure, when I select an object on the canvas, that his object is kinda “highlighted” within the Subtool Palette?

So it’s really “visible”.

Thanks

Hi @FattyBull ,

If you alt click on a subtool inside of the viewport itself to make it the active subtool, the subtool list will make that subtool active and switch to it in the subtool list.

Likewise you can use the subtool pop-up (N key by default). Click on the desired subtool in the pop up menu and the subtool palette list will refocus on that subtool.

Another neat trick is to activate “Dynamic” in the Solo mode button toggle. This way you can keep your entire tool visible in the viewport, but if you’re ever not certain which subtool is selected you can rotate the model slightly, and all subtools but the active one will temporarily disappear.

yes thank you, all those options do work.
However, I want to do something else.

I want to make sure, that “visually” I can immediately see within my SubTool Palette, what Subtool I am working on. Therefore, I would like to change the intensity and color of the “Highlight”.

  • How to change only the Highlight Color from a selected Subtool?

@FattyBull

Go to “Preferences > IColors” and change the colors of Icn1 and Icn2.

If you want to change the appearance of the highlighted subtool in the subtool list, then you can do as ZBer suggested above. If you want to change the intensity of the highlighted subtool within the Canvas viewport, you can change the following option:

Preferences > Edit> Inactive Subtool Dimming.

Decreasing the value of that slider will intensify the default “dimming” effect of inactive subtools. However, this effect requires polypaint be disabled. Any active polypaint or applied texture will override the dimming effect.
