How to get that Pixar SSS skin look?

I just download the free version of Renderman and am experimenting with some of the shaders, but was wondering if anyone here has some tips/workflows on creating the skin material with that amazing SSS that you see in Pixar/Disney characters? I’m new to texturing so this is still pretty confusing. Is this skin material achievable with shaders only, or do you need to use maps and lighting tricks?
