How To Fix Panel Loop Issues at Intersecting Polygroups?

When multiple Polygroups intersect, I have a problem where Panel Loops don’t stay uniform. They “fall off” at the intersections and don’t continue evenly.

Please watch the short video below demonstrating that specific issue:

Thanks for any ideas on how to fix that in a procedural way.

Hi @FattyBull ,

Try moving the Geometry> Edge Loop> Panel Loops: Polish slider to zero before the operation. This should reduce the amount of softening near the edges and provide harder surface results.

You may also find the results easier to control if you use Group Loops to insert a minimal amount of geometry in between the target polygroups. They can be more difficult to control when they all share the same edge.

However, it’s also important to keep in mind what the feature is tuned for. Panel loops are geared more towards meshes of medium or higher resolution to provide “pretty good” results with minimal effort in most situations. It is not a precision modeling tool for situations where you are concerned about precise topology. For lower res models, past a certain threshold you may find that Zmodeler gives you finer control and more predictable results.

Thank you. Well, that is interesting.
Because when I try to use PanelLoops for a high dens mesh (Dynamesh) I get jaggy edges.

Even so when I polish the Groups.

Makes me think when PanelLoops would be the ideal feature to use?
If it’s not on a Low-Poly Mesh, or a clean surface topology and Dynamesh doesn’t work.
When would you use that feature?

The funny part about this, is that I am trying to use panel loops on high-res meshes.
But there are issues, especially when you have multiple polygroups intersecting.

I show the issue in the video below:
