How to export maya smooth surface ( created by using 'soften' function on edges)

in maya 2024,

after I model a rounded/curved surface, I can select the edges of the surface and then use the “soften edge” function to make the surface more smooth.

please see attached picture of the maya screen capture of the smooth surface

When I export from maya to zbrush, this smooth edge is not exported? please see zbrush object.

can please let me know how do I export the smooth edge surface in my obj file so that the object surface looks smooth in zbrush exactly like in maya?

Thanks much much

Hi @Homelander ,

Any feature that smooths an edge must exist as actual geometry in order to be imported into ZBrush. Otherwise the feature is only relevant to the native application.

So if the feature is softening the edge by virtually adding additional geometry like a bevel to the edge, that geometry must be committed or frozen prior to export so that it exists as actual geometry independently of whatever feature you’re referring to. ZBrush has no idea what the “soften edge” feature in your external program does. It only understands the actual geometry being imported into the program.

Please refer to Maya resources for information on how to convert whatever this feature is doing to actual geometry for export.
