Hey guys after several years i started to learn ZBrush again.
Its just a hobby of mine and i’m not a professional.
As usual Pixologic did some serious work in the last couple of years and i’m totally hyped to
see so many features i was missing 8 year ago implemented in the current 2019 version.
I just started to get into hard surface modelling and there is a question i found no answer yet.
I hope you guys can help me.
One big part of hard surface modelling is separating subtools from concept sculpts. And yes i could
just separate them cleanly via retopo and that’s a good way to go. But i have a couple if cases where i
want to separate a part into subgroups. Lets just say separating them into poly groups.
Up to now i just stumbled upon manually masking meshed. Sure there are several masking methods
but a far as i can say they all rely on manual masking.
What i want is a kind of masking selection. Lets say i have a part which is separated by hard edges from the rest of
an object. I want to click on this part and want a mask that is automatically spreading until it meets an edge with
a kind of tolerance setting. I guess you guys know what i mean.
As far as i can tell there is the PolyGroupIt plugin that is capable of doing these kind of calculations.
But this isn’t quite quickly accessible, Lets say i just need a single part to be masked while sculpting I
don’t want to do all the polygroup separation this early.
So long story short i need the algorithm of the polygroupit plugin for quick auto masking.
Is there a way to achieve something like this ? Manual masking is kinda ****ty.
Thanks guys.
