How to achieve this fabric trim line?

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to sculpt some clothing and I see a lot of people achieving this very clean and pronounced trim/edge on their clothing sculpt. I was wondering what’s the best way to achieve this look? I attached some examples below where you can see the trim/border line running across the sculpt.

Hi @NohSushi!

There are often many different ways to do something in Zbrush. It’s impossible to say for sure without getting a closer look at the mesh topology, and even then it may have been remeshed several times, eliminating clues for how it was originally created.

But generally speaking, in Zbrush, that detail could have been:

  1. Modeled in at low poly level with ZModeler or other. This has the potential to produce the cleanest detail, but requires the most forethought as well as modeling expertise.

  2. Created with Panel Loops or Group Loops. This is a popular tool for clothing and armor construction.

  3. Sculpted in at high poly with careful strokes by hand, and a lot of help from Lazy Mouse to aid with smooth, unbroken strokes.

  4. Inflated at high poly with careful masking, and Tool > Deformation > Inflate

Those are off the top of my head, but there are sure to be others.
