How old is too old?

How old would you guys say is too old to start working with Zbrush? I’ve never done any 3D modeling, other then trying out 3D Studio Max when I was 16-17. I do draw some, but mostly do web design.

I’m 29 now, and have been lurking on this site for a couple of months, getting tons of inspiration and wanting to try this out. But I don’t know if the money is worth it if I am in fact too “old”.

So, am I? :stuck_out_tongue:

Visnes, your never too old to try something new, if you love it why not even if its just for your own personal satisfaction.:stuck_out_tongue:

Morgs

if u love this its never old to start and i think that there is alot of wonderful artist who started at 30 and 40

I’m 36 and just bought zbrush about a month ago, and I work full time as a deli supervisor but do not care to any more. I want to create. I think that in the art worl it’s never too late.

Thanks for the replies. I’m Going to do this now. It’s nice to hear that I’m not too old yet. I’ve always been fascinated and envious of people who do 3D artwork, and I’ve always wanted to try it. But I have done it because I don’t think I could do anything remotely good.

Thanks for the encouraging words, hopefully I will be able to create something exciting. Again, thanks.

Well I would say around 65-70… it start to be a bit dangerous for your eyes to spend your time on your computer…Serioulsy theres no age. I learned Zbrush basics with and old PDF years ago. Its took me around 6 month to get the basics.
After 1 year and half of practice I became pretty good.

After 3 years I would say you can consider yourself as an advanced user…

Now with all the DVS, youtube tutorials, I woudl say if you pratcice a lot, in 1.5 year you can became a Pro.
if you have good artistical skills.

I remember Cesar Da cool, he turned zbrush pro in maybe 1 year?

well put

I bought a second hand ZB license when I was 64, never did anything worth showing with it, but love playing with the program.

Don’t go through life regretting what you could of done! Take control of now and start today!

If it’s not for you … hey, then you’ve gained an education!

Your question is funny because I asked myself the same kind of questions a lot of time in my life.
When I was young, I dreamed of playing music but my mother raised me by herself and we were way too poor for me to learn an instrument. Later, when I started to work I considered myself “too old” so I never tried. Time went by, and I acted the same for a lot of things “too old to get a motorbike”, “too old to learn to draw” and so one and so forth.
Anyway, to get to the point, on Christmas last year after dreaming of it for a long time I finally decided to buy ZBrush (I’m 45 btw) more or less convinced that I am way too old to get any good at it and that my total absence of artistic education will stop me to be any good anyway.
But …
It does work … I know I will most probably never reach the level of most people in this forum (not due to my age) but I do ENJOY using ZBrush. Learning the interface was no issue, despite its bad reputation, if you take the time to learn how it works, all make sense and is very easy to use (plus the interface is beautiful which is nice  ). I bought some reference material on anatomy (the two figures of anatomytools.com for example), bought some video tutorials (Eat3D is great, Gnomon…) books (Scott Spencer)
You are still a “kid” (at least for a venerable like me ;), I don’t think they are many things that are already out of reach (well, maybe classical musician, guitar hero, high level athlete but not ZBrush  )

let me correct something mr "kittylover’said
"I know I will most probably never reach the level of most people in this forum "

with dedication and practise u can be like all those wonderful artists in this forum

cause no one is born an artist

Cheers everyone. I’m going to buy an Intuos 4 and Zbrush when I get my next paycheck. Hopefully I’ll be able to show of some artwork when I’ve learned the program and made something that I’m happy with.

You guys rock.

How old would you guys say is too old to start working with Zbrush?

…for “working” but for “playing” non age limit !

Good taste has nothing to do with age!

If you tell yourself you are too old - you are right.

If you tell yourself you are NOT too old, - you are right.

You dictate you own abilities, so to be successful, listen to the most successful advice!

You are as old as the woman you feel!

Calculate in dollar value how much entertainment you get out of Z in a day.

Divide the cost of Z by that amount to see how many days it takes for you to get your moneys worth of entertainment from Z.

Estimate your lifespan.

Deduct the number of days from the second calculation from your predicted life span.

One day later than that, you should not buy.

Example -

You get two hours entertainment value a day valued at say the ten dollars it costs you to go to a movie for two hours. Or perhaps the price of two hours worth of whiskey at the bar. Lets say a daily value of ten dollars for arguments sake or 60 days to get an equal return.

Lets say your health history and family history indicates you will live to be about 78.

Deduct 60 days from the day you turn 78 and if you are older than that, don’t buy. At 77 years and ten months of age, perhaps you should hold off, otherwise?

God I wish I were as young as you and worried about age  Your young enough to do anything you want. Enjoy it.
