How many of you utilize tablets?

Hi guys,

I have a 4x5 Wacom tablet and was wondering how many of you use this in your work flow? I would imagine that it would be a great way to work, but was curious what other people used. I am just learning ZB, so am still working through the Practical Guide and the plethora of other tutorial materials available throughout the web. Thank you in advance for any helpful information...

Cheers, Mike

I luv the tablet with zbrush, i use a 9x12 intous 3. Cool thing bout it is you just sit back relax and sculpt no need for keyboard. Saves you alot of time using a tablet, and its much more fluid and easier for you to aquire the details you want, and need.

I think Tablet is indespensible device to use with ZBrush for sculpting. The ones I suggest would be the Intuos lines or better yet Cintiq.

I use -don’t vomit- Trust. It was just for trying out, and then: I can’t draw that well, so no problem there. I’m happy with it, in some cases it’s so much quicker and more relaxed using the tabled in stead of the mouse.
I really don’t know what would be better if you’d spend much more money on a Wacom etc…

using a tablet is a must when sculpting you can use the pressure sensitivity when sculpting and your workflow will go smooth.

I use a mouse initially for the rough shapes. For detail work a tablet is indispensible. It is the only way to go if like me, you can not afford a Cintique.

I think everyone uses tablets. Advice:
Never buy cheap stuff like Trust tablets. I always say: don’t trust “Trust” , I once bought trust A4 size: mistake… the pen needed batteries  it made pen thick and it felt like drawing with a hotdog  maybe since then they made something better but I use wacom now. Cintiq would be cool, but at 2500 they shoud add free car, fridge and a toaster

Another consideration is size. I have the biggest and smallest Intuos. I use the small one the most or shrink the canvas size way down on the big one. For me I like a little motion to go a long way. It is easier to get smooth lines. My opinion only. On super fine detail the big one does come in handy though.

Using Zbrush with a Mouse is like cooking with a Hammer!

I’m glad to hear Blaine uses the 4x5 a lot. Hooking up my Int3 4x5 this week with the same reasoning. Some friends laughed when I told them I want quick sketch thumbnails using short strokes.

Besides, I’m saving my pennies for a Cintiq-- here’s an over-the-shoulder of one in use, as Bert Monroy demo’s Photoshop:

Seems designed for ZB3!

I had been using a mouse upto a week ago. I didnt think it would make much difference but I was wrong. It makes zbrush so much more faster and accurate.

Im not using anythink expensive just a old Wacom pen partner A6.

…a tablett?

I just got used to using a mouse and thought this is how hard it was for everyone to sculpt in digital 3d, regardless of if a mouse or tablet was used. Well a pen on the tablet, it wouldnt work to well with no pen.

I still use a mouse (even after 5 years!), but will be buying a tablet this month. There is a Wacom 4X5 on sale at a store near my house and I am going to jump on it.

Can’t imagine life without a tablet…but sometimes a mouse is easier for somethings…so mouse in left hand and tablet in right…two monitors…keeps this nut out of trouble and in serious need of a tan!
