How many cores does 4R7 use?

Sorry if this is not the right place to post this, but didn’t see anywhere else. I’m about to purchase 4R7 and build a computer as well. I have some serious analysis paralysis going on about what kind of computer I should build to run it efficiently. I’m trying to decide between an i7 4790k (4 cores, 4ghz) or the newer i7 5820k cpu (6 cores, 3.3ghz) I’ve never built a PC and am getting a bit overwhelmed with the choices available.

How many cores can 4R7 use? Is there a difference between the 32 bit and 64 bit version as far as that goes? Will 4 cores be enough? I haven’t found much in searching, but did find a thread here somewhere that said 4R6 could only utilize 2 cores.

The 5820 build is more expensive, and I don’t want to overspend, especially if I’m not getting a return on it. I’ll be using a 500gb SSD for either build. The 4970k would get 32gb of RAM and because of my budget I’d have to keep the 5820k’s RAM at 16, or even 8gb in the beginning. GPU would either be a GTX 960 or 970. Thanks in advance!

It depends on what other software/games you’ll be running. If you only use Zbrush then I don’t think you’ll really see much of a difference and I would probably get the cheaper option. If you’ll be using other programs it might be worth it to get the i7 5820k. The other advantage of going with the i7 5820k is it’s more future proof and supports DDR4 memory instead of DDR3.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll be using this with Zbrush, Photoshop/Illustrator and maybe 3DS Max a little. Mostly Zbrush. I’m a 3d newbie so just beginning to learn the programs. I won’t be doing a whole bunch of scene rendering, but do want to be able to make turntables of characters and models. Leaning towards the 4790k.
