How does TOP ROW work?

Is there a rhyme or reason for how things end up in top row? Some criteria other than it having to be great work. I’m not sure how they choose the highlighted threads.

There are a lot of times I’ve seen things where I really wonder how is this top row. On the flipside there are alot of things I see where I wonder why this isn’t top row. I also see a lot of the same artists getting top row over and over even when their work is not as good as other highlighted/nonhighligted threads. I’m not saying I have top row work. Just wondering if there is a system, or if it is just one person doing the selecting.

Now I’m not going to come in here and start listing projects I don’t think deserve top row, But I have seen 2 awesome pieces posted on Zbrushcentral last week, that should have without a doubt been highlighted. One of them was even headlined on CGsociety.org which is not an easy task at all.

i think top row works by the amount of stars you get.

and yes some people might get a star just because they are stars
and sometimes a great picture gets missed by the many because it gets bumped down by all the other great threads…some times a shame if a good threads gets bumped down by a “really nice”((no other information) comment in some other thread…but thats just the way it is.
so if you feel something needs to be seen…than give it a star and bump it up with a commend for others to see…“really nice” remarks for instants :stuck_out_tongue:

Well first you have to pay me lots and lots of money in crisp unmarked bills…then

top top row tends to be industry folks…but anyone can make it up there if ya do something really cool.
the bottom top row shows newly added threads.

hmm… I doubt it. There are many threads with five stars that are not and don’t deserve top row. The way the star system works is terrible. You have all kinds of folks who like to give 1-2 stars for WIP’s that aren’t even finished yet. Then there are the people who don’t vote what they’d give the piece. Instead they vote really low to bring an average down to what they think it should be. What I would like to see is, to have the star system only appear once that person has voted on that particular thread, this way they are forced to vote what they really think because they won’t be able to see the results beforehand. I don’t think pixologic will go to these lengths, but if they do, it’s one step in the right direction for people getting real feedback for those who don’t have time to post a reply and just want to vote.

Aw shucks!!.. is nice.

I have actually answered this question a few times in the past. Here’s the most recent: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showpost.php?p=391207&postcount=6

There are other factors as well, but those are the major ones.

See above.

LOL  I like the last part.

Anyway, basically, I think if you did well and you’re not stingy about telling people how you did it, most of the time, your work will get posted to the top row. It’s amazing the number of first poster that got inducted to that exclusive top row spot. But if you’re a seasoned zBrusher, your work will most likely get to the top row. However, there seems to be a number of people here with high post count that never got inducted to that top row.

How about making a bottom row (not the second top row, a bottom row on the bottom) showcasing the worst stuff people post to ZBC? I think that’d be fun. Basically, it gives even less artistically not-challenged people some right to brag. And I’m pretty sure, even the most top rower even make some uglified horrific zTools once in a while.

EDIT: Ooh, and there is one more thing. Basically, almost EVERYTHING s&m related material would get some sort of top row sooner or later. Probably someone over at pixo dig those kind of thing.

That’s because the work has to be outstanding. You could have 1,000’s of posts, but if the work blows you not getting in the gallery

Top row selection is totally arbitrary…best not to worry about it one way or the other. It’s basically the whim of ZBC administration, selecting “brochure quality promo images” that have caught their attention. They are busy people, and not every image that might potentially qualify gets noticed.

Also, keep in mind, these are the official company boards of a specific software product. They are not public boards. The purpose of these boards is to support and promote Zbrush, and the more Zbrush centric an image it is, the more helpful it would be in that regard.

If you are looking to showcase your work in general, there are more open boards and websites better suited to that task.

It does seem that if you ONLY use Zbrush to create a final image as it was originally designed then you are less likely to get a top row as well. It is more likely if you render your model/image in some other third party app to give a false sense of what Zbrush itself can actually do.

I always found that disturbing. I want to see what ZBrush does in totality not Max or Maya or any of a dozen other apps. I can see what they can do elsewhere.

Maybe one day we will get a Zbrush only top row but somehow I doubt it.

Cheers

Im telling you the only thing that would explain the top row.
