I am sick of the “auto-updating the textures as they have been modified outside of zbrush” message that freezes zbrush for ages! Is there a way to turn this off?
It can’t be turned off. But the fact that it can kick in for no apparent reason is a known issue that’s being looked into.
Not switching windows between ZBrush and another program, or minimizing the ZB window can help with avoiding it. It does kick in at odd moments though; it was a real pain while I was writing the Alpha/Texture Loader plugins, bouncing in whenever I changed my text file (if I had a imported texture selected).
Ok, I will try minamise instead of alt+tabbing…
What really gets me is that it can sometimes take 3 or 4 minutes to update a map that only took 10 seconds to load in the first place! Its really backwards. I try to get into the habbit of turning off the texture and alpha images when I am ready to switch programs - but the odd occasion I forget and then… 4 minutes later I can work again! arrgg!
roll on 2.5
You might find this little plugin useful. Unzip it to your ZStartup\ZPlugs folder. There’ll be a new AutUpd OFF button in the ZPlugin>MarcusTools subpalette. If you press this, or use the hotkey SHIFT+TAB then texture and alpha are switched to zero and the ZB window is minimized. (Unfortunately I couldn’t get it to simply switch windows or use the alt+TAB hotkey!)
Ok marcus, I will give this a go. thankyou very much. Ill let you know if it works ok my end!
