I have this column I’m making with a relief wrapped around it. I started out by creating the cylinder and duplicating it onto the second subtool where I created the relief using an alpha brush and extrusion, to which I then hid and deleted the masked part leaving only the cylinder and the relief as separate subtools. Now I’m just wondering how I would go about blending or smoothing the subtools together while keeping the polygroups intact, because as you can see the borders on the relief are jagged. Thank you in advance.
one way is , make duplicates of both, then merge them together. they will remain as separate groups. then smooth and or polish as normal, maybe inflate one or the other just a bit.
zEddie advice is good because the duplicates sub tools give you options that won’t impact your originals.
Another idea to experiment with is to use the polish slider on the deformation menu. The more you slide the greater the effect and you can undo if the effect is undesirable. A solid dot means your model retains its volume and does not shrink with the polish. If you click the dot making it open then the model’s volume decreases along with polish.

Great tip Jax! i never knew that.
