How do I avoid crossing eyeballs after using Deformation>mirror'

I’m sculpting a human face and created the eyeballs using insert sphere>deformation>mirror…but now after painting the eyes and I try to rotate them left/right using the Gizmo, the eyes cross.

Can I fix that after using Mirror or do I have to create them another way? And Which way is that?

Just mask the eye you don’t want to rotate, press “Go to Unmasked Mesh Center” for the Gizmo and then rotate the eye.
