How can I keep (maybe crease) spikes?

Hi I am trying to recreate one of my drawings in 3d.
I already made the head in another program, but now I want to create the body and all the details in Zbrush.
Zbrush is also very good for managing topology, so I can increase that as well.

But I am struggling to keep the sharp points of the spikes.

I learned about creasing edges, but I can’t find something similar for my spikes/points/vertices, etc…

So does anybody know how to go about that?

Hello @Magic-4e!

When working at low poly level and creases don’t work for a certain situation, remember you can always reinforce a point or an edge with additional geometry. So in this case use the slice curve brush to slice an edge loop right next to the very tip. Now when it subdivides, it should stay much sharper. You can use Zmodeler to slide the edge closer or farther from the tip to increase or decrease the sharpness.

You can also use Dynamic Subdivision to preview what the low poly mesh will look like subdivided, without actually changing the geometry–very useful for low poly work.

Ah yes.
Thats a good idea, thanks.

Say: I noticed that creasing doesn’t work with dynamesh, is there a way to preserve sharp edges and points while retopologizing?

If you’re dynameshing at sufficient resolution, it shouldn’t be a problem. Creasing is only required when subdividing from a low poly mesh.

ok

And what would you do if you need to decrease topologie?
