I’ve just installed ZBrush3.1.
I want to know how to create HotKeys.
For example “undo”. This used to be Ctrl-Z.
This doesn’t seem to work anymore…so how can I (re)assign this keyboard
shortcut?

OK …I assigned the hotkey Ctrl+Z to undo.
I can see it in the hotkey.txt file…and when I rollover the undo button.
Problem is …sometimes it works…and then I close ZBrush, open it again
and the keyboard shortcut doesn’t work anymore.
Is this Ctrl+Z hardcoded somehow in my config file and contradicting my custome hotkeys file…or something like that?

I’ll be more specific.
If I start ZBrush 3.1 and put a default tool (Sphere3D or something) on the canvas (convert to polymesh)…the hotkey Ctrl+Z (multiple undos), works as it should. I load one of my custom tools after that and it still works.
However. If I start ZBrush 3.1 and load my custom tool first, the hotkey doesn’t
work. And neither does it work when I try it on a default tool (Sphere3D), after I tried it on my custom tool !?!
Might this have something to do with the fact that Ctrl+Z is assigned to the document undo as standard ??? And when you change it to the Tool Undo it works inconsistently.
In any case it makes this update unusable, and I’m going to have to ask IT to
revert to Zbrush3 (if that’s possible) so I can get on with my work.

Windows XP Pro SP2 (2002)
Pentium4 3GHz
2 GB ram
NVidia GForce4 6800 (latest drivers)
First off, Ctrl+Z is the default hotkey for undo in both edit and paint modes. Ctrl+Shift+Z is the default hotkey for redo. The fact that you’re not getting this behavior BY DEFAULT indicates a problem.
That having been said, please follow this forum’s guidelines when posting any troubleshooting inquiry. With each troubleshooting post, please include your full system specs and any other pertinent information which will allow us to determine if this is one of the following: a) user error? b) Misunderstanding of a specific feature, such as its usage and limitations? c) An item which has already been resolved. d) An item which needs to be resolved.
IMPORTANT: Before posting a troubleshooting item, make sure that:
- You are using the latest ZBrush version.
2. You have a ‘clean’ ZBrush install. i.e. remove any items which you have added (such as older ZScripts and other startup items) which may result in unexpected - and difficult to resolve - problems.
- You did not increase the PreferencesMax polygon count or Compact Mem to a level which can not be supported by your system specs.
