Highlighter Brush: What does it do?

Messing around with the demo (for the record, I’m very impressed). I can’t figure out to use the Highlighter brush, however. In one of the Zscripts, I saw it used to tweak shadows around objects, but in practice I can’t seem to get it to do… anything. I’ve tried changing the modifier settings (Auto, white, main) to no avail–whenever I paint on any portion of the canvas, I get nothing. No effect whatsoever.

Anyone have any tips?

Actually, one addendum: when set to auto, I can get the highlighter brush to lighten dark areas on an object. Which is exactly the opposite of what the Zscript demonstrated…

The highlighter brush lightens the color of an object toward white. If you keep going over an area, it will eventually turn completely white. Holding down the Alt key while you paint with the brush does the opposite, darkening things to black.

The darkening effect is very dramatic, while the lightening effect is much more subtle at first. It requires either a high intensity or patience to see its results.

For the record, all of those brushes that have a slash through the middle of their icon operate the same way: changing to the opposite function if you hold the Alt key down.

Thanks for the info on the ‘Slash’ Matthew!
I didn’t know that…
Now I’ll have to just ‘play’ with them…Oh well…
