Highend3d announces 5 minute fully hosted tutorial system

Highend3d.com and Fxshare.com are pleased to announce our new 5 minute fully hosted tutorial system for Zbrush

This system allows any user who has text, screen shots, movies, or existing tutorials, to easily publish a multi page fully hosted tutorial on our sites within 5 minutes for free. The system uses our proprietary wysiwyg editor which allows users who know no html to easily create a formatted tutorial containing graphics, movies, and even scene files all hosted directly on our server. Users can also create a forum for every tutorial with just one click. A forum allows readers to share their ideas and create new conversations about the topics submitted.

The owner of the tutorial also has the ability to “Edit” their tutorial at any time, making changes or adding new graphics or additions. This could be very useful when updating tutorials to be compatible with new versions of the software.

Example video of how the system works:
http://www.highend3d.com/demomovies/tutorialsystem.html"The HighEnd3D tutorial system vastly simplifies the work involved in creating a clear and concise tutorial and adds the ability to maintain it with little effort. Its a great tool for sharing information within the community!", says Scott Spencer author of many Maya and Zbrush tutorials.

Once the tutorials are in the site they are linked from other areas on the site such as related scripts and plugins sections. Some recent tutorials have had over 20,000 views in their first 2 months on the site. By being part of the site the traffic to any user’s tutorial is far greater then hosted anywhere else on the Internet.

Tutorial Features for Authors:

  • Create tutorials live on the site
  • Paste existing tutorials
  • Edit owned tutorials
  • Create forums
  • Host scene files, images, and movies within the tutorials
  • Tutorials are linked to your account
  • Tutorials are linked throughout the site where relevant
  • Organize tutorials where readers will be looking for them
  • Specify Readership Level, Operating System, Software Version
  • No HTML knowledge, No external servers needed
  • High exposure
  • Have your tutorial indexed high in google

Tutorial Features for Readers

  • Easily find tutorials based on specific subsections
  • Search for tutorials with basic and advanced search features
  • Sort by Date, Rating, Title, or Editor’s pick
  • Rate your favorite tutorials
  • Bookmark tutorials
  • Filter by Readership Level, Operating System, or Software Version
  • Send tutorial to a friend
  • Share your ideas with the author in tutorial forums

Will McCullough states: “The philosophy behind the new tutorial system was to build a pipeline that allows users an easy way to share information quickly. With just a few screen grabs and some text a user can now write a full tutorial within minutes and have it published and highly trafficked. We wanted to eliminate the need for users to find separate webservers just to share ideas with the community and with our new system we’ve accomplished that. Deanan DaSilva called it ‘TutorialBlogging’ and we hope all users will find it as easy!”

In a way that is really cool. Although the post here is not, especially in such detail (my opinion).

Product specific info should stay with the product in my experience, especially as Zbrush Central is one of the most successful forums on the web overall supporting the product that is at home here. Highend3D has a wealth of information as it is and some very unique forums catering to and featuring some industry greats. I do see some tuts being useful over yonder concerning various app integration and specific topics not covered here. The Zbrush forums on HighEnd3D being a good example, where the original goal seemed to be coverage of Zbrush in production. And the Renderman forum is another great example.

I’ve used HighEnd3D for many years and I do love the site, so this post above shocked me a little.

What on earth where you guys thinking? Promoting a tutorial-site? Here?
Oh, my. Find something to hang on to.

Proudly posting the latest in Zbrush 1.5 tutorials.

 Don’t see what possibly could be wrong with promoting the site?

Do like that thumbnail :+1: Perhaps its easier to just create a pagebreak button though, so you won’t have to load so many editors and the user can create as many pages as he wants.

Hey Jason,

To clarify why we posted this here is we are actively building our zbrush community. Specifically we have been in contact with many zbrush users who are on both sides of tutorials (writers and readers). As many zbrush users are not familiar with what highend3d’s structure is yet, its important to let everyone see the tools that are developed for it.

As you can see we have developed this tutorial system in the zbrush section on our site. Therefore it is specifically a zbrush tool and for zbrush users. Zbrush users who now want to write tutorials can do so in a few minutes and have them organized so other users can easily find them based on zbrush specific sections:

You can see we already have many tutorials there. I guess so may see it as promoting the site, but the point of the release here is specifically to promote the tools and resources dedicated to zbrush tutorials for both readers and tutorial writers. We’ve had great response from both. So I really hope the community doesnt take it any other way…

Thanks for the feedback.

Will
