HIGH SIERRA and PALLETS issue

I don’t suppose I’ll get many replies to this, but I think it’s important to let others know it’s happening.

I’ve updated my iMac to HIGH SIERRA OS, and many of the pallets in ZBrush are now scrambled up. They used to be ordered alphabetically, but now seem to be in some new indiscernible order. Screen Shot 2018-01-02 at 1.00.53 PM.png

It’s happening all over the lightbox menus as well. And probably in other menus I haven’t noticed yet.

While it’s not a crippling issue, it is definitely slowing me down as I work. Things aren’t where they used to be, and finding them is what’s slowing me down. I can’t seem to figure out why it’s happened, or how to fix it. Please, if any one can help me correct this, I’d be grateful. Thanks!

relevant info: zBrush 4r8, from OS Sierra to OS HIGH SIERRA. late 2014 iMac 5k 27inch, 32gb ram.

Thank you for this post. Having the same exact problem here, been trying to figure it out. It is High Sierra absolutely. Zbrush menus are all Scrambled up inside Lightbox. Will report to Apple & ZB support.

Sorry it’s happening to you Ellie, but I’m glad I’m not alone. Hopefully they’ll figure out the issue and have a fix soon. It’s really annoying. The more people that complain about it, maybe it will get it taken care of quicker. Thanks for the reply.

I just filled in a support ticket to ZB to let them know about this. All my files in Lightbox (which I name with prefix numbers are completely scrambled).ZB support are usually very responsive. I linked to this thread.
if anyone else has this issue hopefully they will add a comment here.

Ok I got a Reply Back :

Thank you for using ZBrush!

This is a known issue that our development team is aware of. Unfortunately, there is no information at this time about when a correction may be released for this. The only thing I can tell you is that we are working aware of it and are working to find a solution.

Sincerely,

Will Miller

The problem is caused by the new AFPS format of the Startup Disk.
If you have a second drive available, check if it is in the old AFP (Mac OS Extended) format with cmd-i.
Move the whole ZBrush folder to that drive and start the application from there.
The disk will probably be slower compared to the internal (Flash) storage, but it works.

That’s very interesting. Thanks for that. Unfortunately, it’s not an ideal solution for me. Not even temporarily.

[FONT=Verdana]I have a bit more information about this issue.

(email from Pixologic)

[FONT=Verdana]Known issues to occur from upgrade to OS High Sierra 10.13.1 and above:

  1. All ZBrushes, Materials, Alphas, and Textures in their Palettes may become randomized in a non-alphabetical/non-standard ZBrush order

  2. ZTL files that previously had existing Materials assigned to subtools, if loaded into ZBrush on MacOS High Sierra, the Subtools may lose the proper material ID,
and will be assigned a new random material ID, which has been reported by multiple users as dark grey.
(likely being assigned BumpViewer mat, or other dark shaded ZBrush materials without previously existing polypaint displaying)

  3. ZTL files that previously had existing Polypaint assigned will load in with dark grey shaded materials, seemingly with no polyPaint applied.
However, the polyPaint will show up when hovering over the subtools in Subtool Palette.
^ For issue 3, it’s possible when you load the ZTL and draw it in 3D Edit mode onto the document/canvas, you do not have RGB enabled before drawing
out the ZTL after loading, which is also a known issue, and will not display assigned RGB data normally.
Make sure before you draw the ZTL, that RGB option is enabled, and polypaint should display normally.
(This issue regarding Polypaint does not occur if you are loading a ZPR file)

At this time we are investigating this issue with great concern, but I cannot say when we will be able to resolve this issue, as we will need to communicate with Apple,
and possibly make changes to ZBrush to fix this. We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this ASAP, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
The only suggestion I can offer you is to revert back to previous Mac OS Sierra, if you have the option to do so. In that OS, none of these issues were reported to occur.

On the last part- I called Apple . They said that downgrading to an older OS might be possible for some machines.
New machines would need to boot from an external drive running the older OS (assuming you have access to it) and using this drive as startup disk.
