Hidding off objects, and Symmetry.

Ok so my problem is when i have symmetry enabled, and im hiding off my right hand while sculpting my left, the right hand isnt being sculpted and when i unhide the right hand, it remains untouched. Does anyone know a workaround?

One of the reasons for hiding parts of the mesh is to improve performance on the parts that are still visible. If ZBrush still had to calculate edits on the hidden parts, then that advantage would be lost.

Either don’t hide the symmetrical sections, or use Smart ReSym to copy the sculpting across after you’re done. But keep in mind that the more points you have the more likely that the ReSym calculation will fail to deliver 100% results. That means that you can slowly lose symmetry if you push things too far.

One thing you should ask yourself is why you’re hiding one side to begin with.

  • Is it because that’s how you work in other apps? If so, then forget what you know because ZBrush can handle a lot more than those other apps can.
  • If it’s because performance is slowing down, then you might consider splitting your mesh into multiple SubTools. This will let you get considerably higher polygon counts without sacrificing performance and without needing to hide anything.
  • If it’s because you’re working on some extremity like a hand and it gets tough trying to zoom in close enough without having the model fly off into space, simply turn on Transform>Local. This feature interactively changes the pivot point of the model to match the last edited point. So with Local active you can leave the mesh fully visible while still being able to zoom in close to a particular part and edit without problems.

Thanks a lot aurick your very helpful
