Hi people hows it going? Im starting to get the hang of zbrush now (i think) and have decided to start a fully blown project (this will be first, as i have just been messing around getting to know it). i am trying to recreate the predator’s face. When it is finished i will post a few pics. before i start im doing a bit of research and was wondering if anyone knows the best root to make the claw like teeth which come out from the tentacles on his (or hers) face. here is a pic of what im on about? cheers
you could use edgeloops to create extra geo and pull em out or you could mask small dots where ya want the teeth, inverse the mask then use move tool to pull em out or plan for them in your zsphere setup. No right way or wrong way…whatever works for you and what you plan to use the model for.
mmm yeh sounds good thanks
You can also select the torus tool, open preview, and play with the initialize options to quickly make a talon. Then you can mark model ad talon in place and generate a new mesh. Viola, instantly perfect fangs!

Where did you find that bust of the Predator? I had to pause the DVD when I did it as there wasn’t a lot of good reference material out there. I modeled the base mesh in maya and then brought it into Zbrush. I’ve found that the easiest way to do it
Chris can you post some of those pictures of the predator your modeling? I think modeling a character like Predator it’s going to be a good practice to get the handle of zbrush. If you guys know about where to find some good pictures for reference post it up. Have a good one guys!
This was the Predator I did. I kind of don’t like it now after seeing that picture of the bust. Ah well. This one was my first attempt at Zbrush so I guess I won’t give it to much thought. Let me know if there is anything else you need.
Chris very nice job! Looks very good! One thing I would say is the proportion of the head. I think the lenght of the head is a lil bit long. I love the detail on his face and the the mouth area where the claws are. Ohhh and thx for posting the pics.
no worries chris. i do the same thing. model something>love it. go back later(weeks/months)>see everything wrong.
i see it as a sign of becoming a better artist.
I constantly find myself going back and looking at stuff and think of redoing it as I get better. But, as I’m still trying to find a job I just keep on trying to add new works to my portfolio. Its amazing how difficult it is to get into this industry.
thanks for all the tips people, as for the picture i just googled predator face in images part. As i keep banging on about im still kinda new so could you explain that technique regarding the torus tool? it sounds like a handy thing to know. btw i hear what you guys are saying about christophers model and stuff but i hope mine looks half as good when its finished. cheers!
To be as helpfull as possible here is the easiest way that I’ve found. In whatever program you are using create a low polygon model by just extruding faces to get the basic model. Its amazing how little time it takes. Create the teeth and the tusks (edge loops around them makes life a lot easier as well). The dreads are just a revolved nurbs curve. Apply UV mapping in Maya. Then when you bring it into Zbrush its just a matter of fleshing out the details and the overall shape. Its far easier to do it this way than it is using Zspheres(for me anyway). I’ve certainly seen people create some amazing stuff using zspheres but I’ve tried both ways and this is what works for me. My e-mail address is in my profile so don’t hesitate to drop me a line if there is anything I can do. I’m looking forward to seeing the model as it comes along
Now you have a wonderfull reference, it won’t be so hard to twek you model!
Good work man!
