Help with Mask and brushes

I’m not sure why this is happening but my mask when I try to apply it to this cylinderical part of my model seems to have this weird pattern and I’m not sure how to fix, this also happens when I use brushes to some degree.

Hi @Rotuma2014

It would help if you would turn on Polyframe (Shift+F) so we could see the wire. To me, it looks like the polyloops have an angular flow to them and you are trying to do a perpendicular mask which would give you this kind of result. For best results, the polyloops would have to be perpendicular to your mask.

Ah yes, some of the edge loops are angled weirdly. Is there any way to straighten those edge loops? They weren’t there on my low poly in maya. I see that you can straighten them with masks?

You can use the ZRemesherGuides brush and draw some guides going horizontally across the pillar where you will be doing more sculpting and then ZRemesh the subtool. You should always be mindful of the topology when using ZBrush to get the best results when sculpting. Zbrush likes square polygons the best and will always produce a better result with them.
