help with choosing a tablet

:large_orange_diamond:I need some opinions from people that use graphic tablets on a regular basis, please.:large_orange_diamond:

:large_orange_diamond:I was wondering, concerning a graphics tablet, if you can really tell the difference between 512 and 1024 pen pressure when your using it in Zbrush. I was going to get me a tablet, but I’m not sure if 512 or 1024 really makes that much of a difference? Anyone ever use both really notice THAT much of a difference?:large_orange_diamond:

:large_orange_diamond:Thank you.:large_orange_diamond:

look, if you’re serious about doing art on your computer get a Intuos3, its not worth it to mess with something weaker only to realize in time that you need a better tablet.

Ok, thanks. I will check it’s specs.

Anyone else have any suggestions? I would appreciate more than one opinion.

And also, What’s a good size? I don’t want to get one that is too small, nor do I want to get one that is the size of a pizza box, either…

Thanks again!:+1:

I’ve only tried Wacom tablets, and they’re great.

I have a 9 x 12 Wacom Intuos3. It’s a nice drawing area, I wouldn’t go any more than one step down in size. I wouldn’t get one out of the bamboo line up, unless you’re just doing zb as a hobby, they’re not really made for studios. I’ve drawn hardcore on my Intuos for hours every day for two years and the surface looks like it’s never been used.

My only other recommendation is the Wacom Cintiq 20WSX tablet monitor, the most phenomenal art tool ever designed and definitely the creme de la creme of tablets. $2000, though…

Another note, it’s not just the pressure sensitivity that matters. For example, in the Wacom line, Bamboos have 512 levels and the Intuos3s/Cintiqs have 1024. The Bamboos also have a cheaper digitizer, which gives them lag, while the others are incredibly responsive with no lag. The accuracy and natural feel is where the most noticeable difference is, while the sensitivity is only slightly better.

You’re getting great advice. I bought the 4 x 6 Intuos3 and although it works adequately, I wish I’d gone ahead and gotten the 9 x 12…

Stop tormenting us jamespthornton

If you can afford it, get the Cintiq 20WSX (not the 12WX or the 21UX, IMO), and torment me. Those things are awesome. Oh how I wish…

i have a 6x8 and i find its just right, not too hot, not too cold.
i’d love a cintiq but untill they get the weight to be comfortable on your lap (maybe with some of that nifty flexible screen tech) i don’t give it much thought.

I have a Cintiq 21UX, very nice. I also have a 6x8 Intous that I use as a mouse pad. I like using the smaller one with the mouse to browse around the internet but it does a fair job on its own with the pen.

Thanks for the advice guys. Very informative.

I was looking around and I discovered a brand called Adesso. Ever hear of them?

Here is the link to the pad I was looking at.

Anyone own an Adesso brand pad? I am interested in some user feedback if anyone owns one.

If not I will probably go with a wacom. As a company, they seem like to have been around for a pretty long time. But thanks again for all the feedback.:+1:

Anyone?

Wacom, the undisputed industry standard, don’t waste time/money elsewhere…

Yep, that’s exactly what I don’t want to do. But I am still curious if anyone ever owned this brand before. I like to have choices when I shop. I’m a choosy shopper:cool:…and sometimes maybe a little indecisive.

Thanks.

While there probably are a FEW good tablets out of the ocean of off brands, you aren’t grocery shopping. In other words, there a some things in life that you just shouldn’t shop around for. Tattoos are one of them, and tablets are another. Just go with the best of the best, you’re going to have it for years on end, man.

If you shop around for tablets, though, at least you won’t end up with some horrible ink work branded on your ass for the rest of existence. Soooooo…it’s only somewhat comparable, but you definitely aren’t shopping for Frosted Flakes vs. the Kroger brand, Frosty Crisps or whatever the hell…

FYI, PC Mag editor review is 2 stars out of 5…the last words of his article read:

“Clearly, Adesso offers a lot of drawing space at a low price. But the product makes sacrifices in ease of use, functionality, programming, and styling when compared with the Intuos3. Given the compatibility problems, I definitely wouldn’t recommend the Adesso CyberTablet M14 to Mac users. Regardless of which computing platform you prefer, save your money and go for a first-rate tablet instead.”

intous 3 hands down either that or the alternative which im sure every one would like to have maybe sooner or later i will get one… one can dream but for now my intous 3 is working great. better to get a quality product that will last then to get a cheap one that will break down on you.

i say go with the intous 3 if you want quality and durability.

i do know a tablet made a huge difference compare to when i used mouse i have way more control now.

I agree with the rest of the posts here, get a Wacom. I had a Genius for a year or so. It wasn’t bad. It felt like a Wacom from about 10 years ago. I bought an Intuous 3 a few months ago and what a difference. The the tactile feel of the pen on tha tablet was much smoother as was the result on the monitor.

I don’t fumble trying to press buttons on the pen. The eraser is cool. The build of the tablet is top notch almost over-engineered in a good way (I’m a mechanical/manufacturing engineer so I look at stuff like that). The tablet properties software gives lots of control on how the tablet is mapped for different programs. The buttons on the tablet are programmable and useful.

As a bonus, not sure if it is still applicable, the 9x12 version came with a coupon to purchase PS CS3 direct from Adobe for $300. I got the 9x12 Intuous 3 and CS3 for under $700US.

…just eat a lot of Frosty Crisps and you’ll have the extra money in a month…

i use a wacom intuos3 9 x 12 and love it. my boss uses a 12 x 19 wacom and the extra surface area is nice, but i like my 9x12.

As everyone else has said, if you take your art seriously, do not go with anything else other than an intuos3 or a, drooooll…cintique
