Help with 3dD Printing please !!!!!!!!

Hi.

Can anyone help me please ?

I have made a figure with multiple sub tools ( feet, legs, torso etc ) and merged all so now I have one figure as a .ztl file.

However when I export as an stl (after using decimate and 3d print exporter ) and try to print on a makerbot replicator 2 the internal geometry from the original subtools is still there and the print is failing as it is trying to print two pieces in the same place.

Any ideas how to create a shell with no internal geometry ?

Cheer’s in advance

You can make a duplicate of your merged subtools, then Dynamesh (without groups turned on)… this should get you a shell. You can then project the details from your original merged subtool onto the Dynameshed copy. You’ll need to experiment with the Dynamesh settings, subdivide, project details.

After this, you can then decimate, export, etc.

Thanks Thor I look forward to giving that a go.

Many thanks

Archie

I don’t think you mean ZRemesh, I think you mean Dynamesh no?

Whoops…

Indeed, Dynamesh is the way to go.
Although Zremesher will combine the groups, it won’t create a shell from multiple subtools, and eliminate internal geometry.

Hi Thor and Gordon.

Thanks for that. Finally managed to get a print off ! Whoop whoop.

So the resolution settings in dynamesh lost a bit of detail but i can carve that back in. Need to look in to what the resolution slider means in real terms.

I’m teaching myself z brush so silly things like this can take up a shedload of time trying to sort/figure out.

Once again thank you for taking the time to help out. Ill post a pic of him once he’s cleaned up.

Archie.

Hey Archie… that’s looking pretty good. :+1:

For Dynameshing, I like to use the Dynamesh Master Plugin:

… it gives you a little more control - e.g. you can set the number of points/polys.

You can go with a pretty high dynamesh resolution, project the details from your original, (optionally zremesh at this step) then decimate before exporting your .stl.

Lots of settings to experiment with along the way for best results.

Cheer’s Thor.

I’ll try and give that a go at the weekend.
