HELP! trying to make a LEAF

If anyone has any ideas on creating a zbrush leaf, I would love to hear it! Thank you

You could use a box primitive at extreme low poly, so you can move the points around to resemble a leaf. Then use the bend modifier and hit divide followed by smooth.

Thanks Keith! This is the furthest i’ve gotten!

My approach in the past was through Alpha masking.

I scanned real leaves and used Photoshop to create both a texture and a matching Alpha. I then applied both to a plane with maximum divide settings (Initialize menu). For the Alpha, I applied it by using Tool>Modifiers>Selection>Alp. I then used Hide Points before clearing the mask. The result was that only the parts of the leaf that had texture were left visible on the plane. Everything else was hidden.

This technique was used here:

You can use a similar approach completely in ZBrush by painting a leaf texture from the top and using the MRGBZGrabber. This will give you both a texture and a matching Alpha automatically.

Yet another approach would be to start with a Sphere3D primitive and set its initialize value to have a Z of about 2. This flattens the sphere dramatically. Then using symmetry, you can easily model it into a leaf shape. Leave it flat until you texture it, then afterwards you can tweak the shape to give some natural curl and stuff.

This was how I did the petals for The Iris. The leaves used a flattened Spherinder3D instead of a Sphere3D.

Here is a quick script for you.
Hope it helps!
Good luck and Happy ZBrushing!

Hi Nunyabeezwax. I just posted a mini-tut on how I made my leaves for my .“The Garden Bed” image. Maybe it will be of some help

I am also experimenting with creating leaves in zbrush.

The links no longer work.

Is it possible to get them back?

Thanks

Just in case your interested, I did a leaf ‘process’ a while back in my thread here:

page 2 I think, might be of use to ya
