Help! Topology and edge flow

Hello again everyone! At the recommendation of a professional character artist who formerly worked for Rhythm and Hues I began learning box modeling in 3DS Max. I know this is a Zbrush forum but I have posted here before with my humble beginnings in the 3d world and I wanted to know if anyone could give some feedback as to my topology and edge flow. I have a bunch of different versions of the topology for this chainsaw but would like to know where you would start, or how to best approach modeling this. I am currently enrolled at the University of Idaho in their Virtual Technology and Design program and up until this point I have been doing pretty well, but for some reason this chainsaw has been giving me all sorts of hell. I will post pictures of my attempts once I convert them as the image size is too large to post. Thank you for looking!

I was having the same problems but then I found the pastry and cake forum and they were most helpful.

Norbert, surely there must be a 3ds forum somewhere that would be better suited for this critique. The type edgeflow you want for Zbrush is not necessarily what you want for an economic 3ds box model. This board is for Zbrush related questions and troubleshooting. General purpose boards like CG Talk or Polycount are probably a better fit for this.

I know, I know. Honestly I posted it here because the forum members here have always given good advice, and I felt that I might get a better response from members here than I would on Polycount, etc. Didn’t mean to ruffle anyone’s feathers.

No feathers ruffled. I just want to make sure you get to where you can get the most appropriate help for your issue.

I started by using zbrush a year ago, so a lot of this is new to me. As I intend to apply these skills to organic modeling in the future, I noticed a lot of amazing artists here use 3ds for their base meshes and are already familiar with hard surface edge flow, so I figured who better to ask lol.

The topology looks fine to me. Seeing as you got as far as Turbosmooth, you must have a good visual idea of how well the model is working out for you.
