Help reconnecting mesh

Hi there.
Simple question (hopefully)…
I have deleted part of my mesh. Now there are 2 halves. I need to reconnect them. What tool should I use? I have tried: geometry>modify topography>close holes but it closed the 2 halves leaving 2 separate meshes. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Hello @A1s

If the points of the two hemispheres still align (are very close to each other) you can fuse the two halves together with Tool >Geometry> Modify Topology> Weld Points with an effective Weld Distance set.

There are a number of other less perfect ways you might fuse the two halves together, but many might result in a seam or deformation in that area. I wonder if since it’s a hemisphere, it would not be easier to simply delete one half, and use Tool > Geometry > Modify Topology> Mirror and Weld along the appropriate axis to simply mirror the geometry to the other side, creating a whole sphere again.

Hi Spyndel,
Thanks for your response.
The reason I haven’t mirrored them is because I have added some fine details so both halves are different. Thanks for the tip on weld points. Will be trying it now.

It wasn’t a perfect fix but it definitely helped me get some of it back together. Thanks again. I still think there should be a mesh connect brush or something. Maybe it will be in the next release.

Hi @A1s

There is the CurveBridge brush and the Bridge function in the ZModeler brush. In each case though, the two halves would have to be in the same subtool. If they are not, you would have to merge them.

There are at least a half dozen features that could have connected the halves in some fashion. I could list them if you wish. That wasn’t your problem. Your problem was getting the halves connected in such a way that it didnt leave a visible seam or distortion where the halves were joined.

In the future, consider simply projecting the detail from your two similar in shape but different in detail halves onto an entirely new mesh that is already a whole piece.

This is good to know. I will look into it. Thanks!

Definitely going to practice up on projecting as it will be useful for so many things in the future. Thanks again for the great help.
