Help needed! Trying to get a Hammered Metal look

Hi, I’m fairly new to ZBrush and was looking to create a hammered metal effect like the pictures below…

I tried using the Trim Dynamic brush as a spray, but the ‘dimples’ I am getting seem too round, whilst the reference show more irregular shaped ‘dimples’.

If anyone knows how I can get this look then that would be great.

Thanks!

There are probably alphas with that effect. Or you could convert the ones you posted into alphas.

you can probably achieve this with Noisemaker, I used Voronai for this applied as a mask then used Inflate Balloon in the Deformation palette

Thanks for your help guys.

I actually downloaded the Orb brush pack by Michael Vincente https://gumroad.com/l/nOkHw which had a hammered metal brush in it. However due to my lack of experience with ZBrush, I could only drag a rectangle out, which applied the hammered effect. What I needed was to apply that to a cylindrical surface.

But there was another brush in the pack that flattens a surface, so I had a play around with that. By altering the depth so the brush made a dimple rather than a flat patch, and also setting it to spray with a flow and placement to 0 (not sure why, just seemed to work!), I made a brush that allowed me to manually place each dimple. Not the quick fix I was looking for, but it worked out pretty well.

However, I think spaceboy’s solution is very neat, and although the edges of the ‘cells’ are sharper than I would like, it saves a lot of time and looks good too.

I have a good couple of options now, so thanks!
