Help! my ZBrush can't draw normally any more

So I have just installed zbrush a week ago have been customizing my UI some, installed a navigation plug in ( lest you mouse wheel zoom) wrote some real simple macros . I am using Win 10 and have 8gb of ram.

Every thing was going great, then I noticed that I cant draw smooth strokes any more with the standard brush and freehand stroke. I tried re initializing zbrush, restarting zbrush, going back to the standard UI, resetting all brushes, deleting a start up doc form my users folder, rebooting my PC, Nothing helps, I tried another mouse (haven’t used my tablet so far) which was a gaming mouse that helped a tiny bit. I also ran sculptriss but had no problem there. I have enough polys and I am using the preloaded plane tool .

The only thing I can imagine is that the playing around with the UI and macros, or maybe just fiddling with the all the options as I have been investigating the program, affected something.

I know something happened because it was not like this initially.

Top stroke is slow, then a little faster, then the z is fast.

Thanks

Well of course I have been obssed with this for the last few hours. I tried my old wacom but I think I am having driver issues with the computer zbrush is running on, so I cant test that maybe time for a new one
its only 10 years old. But I did a few PC reboots while trying to install tablet drivers, and I tried both mice again one is a very old microsoft mouse that I have been using as I was just familiarizing my self
with zbrush , and that mouse definatly does the dotted strokes thing. although I did notice with lazy mouse on at .25 it is better (now I am wondering if zbrush was starting up at that setting when I first started using it)

But the really good logitec gaming mouse now appears to be making a good stroke even at faster drawing speeds. defiantly a big difference between the two mice.

But I could swear the gaming mouse was also not doing that nice of a stroke just a couple hours ago?

So If any one can comment on the causes of the stroke breaking up as you start to draw faster , I would love to gain some insight into this , as far as program settings, glitches and or hardware issues.

Thanks

You have Lazy Mouse off, which can cause that effect.

Yep, that seems to be it . I did not realize that when I first started to use the program lazy mouse was defaulted to on at .25

Any idea what is it about a gaming mouse that makes a smoother stroke even when lazy mouse is turned off ?

I did get my old wacom graphire 3 running and it is not as smooth as the gaming mouse, I don’t know may be a new tablet with better specs would perform
more like the gaming mouse?

Thanks

I think you’ll find the more recent Wacom tablets are good for ZBrush. The program is really designed for working with a tablet (though note the specs say Wacom-compatible). I don’t know why a gaming mouse should give a smoother stroke but perhaps the input resolution is good and ZBrush can pick up on that.

HTH,
