Help! Good samaritan wanted. How to modify a mesh object

Help!

I am new to Zbrush and am trying to do the following: Import a mesh object that looks like a rock with a cave in it. Then modify the mouth of the cave so that it has thickness. Someone suggested that I hit Make Polymer 3d first. I tried it, but am still not able to use a brush to add thickness. I wonder if you could watch this very short screencast video (1 minute) and comment on what I’m doing?

Thank you.

Judging by your video, you are definitely doing some things wrong. You don’t “Make Polymesh3D” first and then import your object. You are backwards there. Also, it looks like your mesh is way too big for the ZBrush environment. Try the following steps…

  1. Starting with a blank canvas, import your cave object then draw it on the canvas.
  2. Turn on “Edit” then click “Make Polymesh3D” button.
  3. To bring your object to the ZBrush preferred size, go to “Tool > Deformation” and click “Unify” button. Then click “Frame” button.

To fix the problem with tearing when you subdivide, before you subdivide, go to “Tool > Geometry > Modify Topology” and click “Weld Points” button.

Note, when you import an OBJ, it isn’t really necessary to click “Make Polymesh3D” button. I was just correcting your workflow.
