Help duplicating this statue's surface quality...?

I’ve got a sculpt to wrap up soon, and til now haven’t done any sort of surfacing that duplicates texture over a form. So I’m looking for advice on starting points to generate this feel over a mesh surface…:

That could be done in a number of ways. Personally I’d probably use rust or flaking paint Alphas on layers to get started, then use various brushes (Dam Standard, Pinch etc.) for the hero details.

Thanks for taking the time to drop that in- hadn’t thought of surfaces like those. Will make a run at it with a few.
