Help a newb....... please?

Hi to everyone, i´m new on Zbrush and in 3d in general (started with swift 3d a month ago, learnt it in 3 days, then started with Wings 3d after some time, started to read the manual up to page 40 or so, then Zbrush, only learning modelling, and i did up to the page ninety something of the practical guide)…
But i ve got an extremelly crappy computer (P III 650, 128M Ram) and i think Zbrush is too much for it.
Some Questions:

  1. Wich other program do you recommend me to use to speed up the workflow?
  2. Where to learn the terms of CG? (i don´t even know what does CG means)
  3. Any Suggestion, tutorials kit, or anything that would help me to learn more is really welcome.
4.I was modelling with Zbrush using Mirror Symetry and a Vertex didn´t move with his symmetrycal reference. I used Smart Resym and move it normally but when i turn out the preview button and the press it again the same error appears, and the same happens when i turn to a higher or lower subdivision level… somebody knows what could have been the cause?
5.What does “Rigging a model” means?
6.Where i can found TextureMaster or an equivalent?

Sorry about my bad english.
Thanks!
Pencha

I can’t help you a lot for the software,
but i think CG means Computer Graphic

hi,

The internet is a great place to search for info on CG or Computer Graphics. Just do a google search and a zillion sites about 3d graphics will come up…read em. They will teach you the lingo and tips and tricks etc. Also check out 3d graphics sections of bookstores for more in depth info on programs or techniques.

If you are using zbrush…check out the scripts that come with it…they are very good and will teach you alot. Of course nothing beats learning by trial and error either. If you are using the demo version, if I remember right texturemaster is in the zscripts you see when you load zbrush. If you have z2 then its called projection master and the button for it is in the top left of your screen.

Rigging basically means setting up your model for animation.

I am not quite sure what question 4 is about but in order for you to model in symmetry you need to turn it on…in Z2 you need to go to transform menu and go down to where it says x, y, z and choose which you wish to use for symmetry. pick one and move a point…you should see two red dots and two points should move if not either rotate your model and see if you see two then or try another. It will depend on how your model faces I believe.

anyways…read this forum, check out cgtalk, or 3dcommune or any number of other 3d forums for info on computer graphics and tips and techniques. The more you read the more you will learn.

thanks everyone!
and how to set up a model for animation?

That would depend on the software of your choice for animation and should be documented with that software.

Before you buy anything I suggest trying out the freeware/ GNU licenced things first…

you may get involved into it and decide that this is not the hobbie/profession that you are seeking… if you choose a free solution to learn with you will have nothing but time to loose… Buying a package and decideing it is not for you will waste both time and money.

There is Blender… IT is somewhat hard to get used to, but is easy on the pockett book… My biggest complaint is the Lack of a good UNDo, and RE-DO functions, it has Video editing software and a Real time rendering engine (game engine) for simulations:

There is also Anim8tor, there are some people who really like this…

There are also a couple of comercial titles you can try out also…

Just do a google search to find them… they dont pay me so I dont give links.

Truespace- I think version 3 is in the public domain now…

Poser- very old version for free download. There is a contract you have to submit.

Daz 3d- Daz is pretty cool… their advertizeing sucks… only get this software if you want to be spammed for the rest of your life… even if you ask nicely to unsubscribe they will still send you Junkmail shamelessly.

3DS, MAYA. Lightwave, and XSI all have free student versions also…

A lot of companies are aiming the advertisements at the Noobie… AVOID ALL OF THEM AT ALL COSTS … The word Noobie is Blood in the water, and the people aiming tward them are the sharks…

3D animation is time consumeing work, accept this, and learn… I tried a few of the easy solutions when I started, and now i am haveing to re-learn a bunch of stuff, because the “Noobie” packages I purchaced are a total JOKE for comercial use.

It takes me almost as long of time to learn the Noobie stuff as it dose a Professional package.

Hope you have fun in the world of animation

lot of thanks!
i´m really happy of seeing how much people keeps answering to the newbs posts in this site…
this was my first post as u can see.
