Hello there!!!
This is my first topic, I hope you like this picture. all is Zbrush, body was made with Zshere (aaaah, lovely Zsphere!), gun too.

Nice work!

Hello Steph

Have happy Zbrushing

Ps Google gives me that
Yeah! Cool comic book style! Just proves that ZBrush is suitable for anything and everything. Well, almost.
Salut Frenchy pilou!!!
Thanks too all the others for the comments, any criticize now?
No critic ! It’s perfect
Pilou
Oh thank you!
Si ! One critic
The moon size or her position
There is no more people who use Zbrush in “comic’s style” so makes many more again
But maybe it’s frustrating to make a 3D Model for flattering it after for a 2D render
Pilou
The moon size, euuuuuuuhhhhh, why?
Hi Steph
Pilou
Sorry but I have just the finished mesh, because my hard disk is full, that’s why I don’t conserve the evolution of my mesh in others saves !
And Idon’t know how to make a Zscript, I’m a newbie, you know !
This is the finished mesh:
And then a cartoon shader with just 2 colors style like Mike Mignola:
Then I do some modifications with the brush, I insert the belt, the gun, and a texture I’ve made for the background!
I love the 2d style you can do in Zbrush, the cartoon shader in this software is beautiful!!
very cool shading going on here. nice modeling also
Mes compliments
Hi Steph
Bravo
For the Zscript : Nothing more easy
Just press “record” on Menu/Script (page 232 of the manual)
and all actions are recording
Have happy Recording
Pilou
Welcome aboard Steph,
That looks great, I like that style very much. I’ve done a couple of cartoon style renders but have not managed to get a thin black outline around my models while retaining the intense shading in other areas of the model. I use the materials diffuse curve to get the cartoon style and then only a single Sun light to get the angle of shading. Is this how you did it?
Once again, great picture also some good modelling. If I had to give any critique, it would only be that there is too much aliasing on the 2 wooden planks (lower left corner). And maybe it would be better if the contrast between hellboy and the background was not the same, too much black on black. His outline seems lost in the lower part on my screen (gamma 2.2). Of course I don’t know much about comics and maybe that is what you wanted
Looking forward to more of your work
Thanks Tveyes!!
For answering of your questions, my toon shader use just 2 colors, and just one light, with the intensity at 2 and the ambient at 0, no shadows!
For the background, you’re right but I wanted to do a Mignola’s style with a lot of black shadow, but he is greater than me!! And I’m a very newbie in Zbrush (by the way, how do you adjust the antialiasing?)

I managed to achieve a black outline to the toon shader by giving it a Reflectivity of 100, setting the Refletion map to a plain black bitmap, and adjusting the Reflectivity curve so that only the outer edges of the object reflect with a sharp falloff. I put a (bad) example in this thread, with a downloadable material.
I’m not sure if this is the “official” way to make cartoon shading, though.
Steph;

There are two ways to anti-alias:
Make your document twice the size of the intended final size. You can then use the Zoom menu (or press CTRL-0) to zoom the image into a special “AA Half” mode, which shows the image in half the original size, anti-aliased.
There are Anti-Alias options available in the Best Render mode, with various smoothing parameters. To use Anti-Alias in the Best Render, switch the “Color Adjustments” on. The picture will be super-sampled, which slows down the rendering the bigger sample you use.
Wow,
Welcome to Zland! That is some very cool work Steph… I really like the toon look of this with the flat colors! Excellent work!
Skaven,
That is a great tip on the black outline… I’ll have to incorporate that into my toon shader material! Thanks!
Best regards,
Michael
Thanks to all!!
