Heads up on new Alex Alvarez and Gnomon DVD. ...plus 14 others

So, Gnomon hosted a presentation last week (01/27/05) where Sony’s VFX department could show their work on Spider-Man 2 and maybe influence a few Oscar votes. It was a very nice event, and it made for a great birthday evening for me. I imagine you don’t care about any of that, though.

What should interest you is the flyer I picked up while I was there.

It reads:

15 more incredible titles in the next few weeks!!!

The Gnomon Workshop is thrilled to announce 15 new titles to be added to both the Digital and Analog libraries next month.

Discover Modeling, Creatures, Photogrammetry and Digital Sets in our Digital series; with Visual Storytelling and unique environments and Industrial Design rendering to enhance our Analog series.

Alex Alvarez

  • Head Sculpting and Texturing (ZBrush Techniques)

Scott Robertson

  • Creating Unique Environments
  • Industrial Design Rendering - Bicycle

Eric Hanson

  • Digital Sets: Design, Modeling and Camera
  • Digital Sets: Lighting and Texturing
  • Digital Sets: Rendering and Compositing
  • Panoramic Photography: Capturing high resolution omnidirectional environments

Greg Downing

  • Photogrammetry: Digital set building from photographs
  • Advanced Photogrammetry: 3D location reconstruction from photographs

Ian McCaig

  • Visual Storytelling: Anatomy of a Story
  • Visual Storytelling: Space Mermaid Character Design
  • Visual Storytelling: Sea King / Sea Witch Character Design
  • Visual Storytelling: the Human World

Aaron Sims

  • Designing Creatures using Photoshop, XSI, and ZBrush
  • Designing an Alien Character

There’s no release date on the flyer, and the flyer itself isn’t dated, so one can only speculate that we’re looking at the end of February.

There’s no evidence of these DVDs on Gnomon’s site yet. Which is to say, no screenshots or detailed descriptions. And for all you know, I’m making the whole thing up.

I imagine they wouldn’t have been handing out press releases if they wanted this kept secret, though, so the website’s sure to reflect this soon enough.

(if I’m wrong about the “this is public” bit, feel free to delete this, or let me know and I’ll do so myself)

Man I need to get out of Kentucky and move to LA! I’d love to just go to Gnomon and learn everything there is to know, analog and digital! LOL

Thanks for sharing Aaron, I’m sure there are going to be a lot of people interested in this. Especially those XSI videos.

They surely will. Particularly once they read this interview, and notice the source of that final picture.

Hiya…

Tomorrow we will be releasing seven DVDs by Eric Hanson, Greg Downing and myself. In three weeks we will release the DVDs by Iain McCaig, Scott Robertson and Aaron Sims… usually we get info for new DVDs up on the site a couple weeks before release dates, but we’ve been insanely swamped with the production of all these titles… but every single one represents a huge amount of time and dedication from each artist, and we are really proud of what we have put together.

Regarding Zbrush, that is my DVD and again will be out tomorrow.
Thanks for posting this thread Ctrl-Z.

Finally! I’ve been waiting all day to place my order.

Cheers, all!
