I’ve had some issues with HD geometry. One, I decided to go into the lower of the two HD subdivisions to add more detail, since the top level left such a small window to work in. This wound up looking perfectly fine when I came out in standard divisions, but only when baking the diffuse map, or going back into HD geometry did I see some nasty artifacts in the polypaint.
I’ve been working around it by duplicating my mesh and baking out the diffuse from the standard divisions, since it looked the same anyway.
That’s one issue, which is annoying. The second one now is that tonight, Zbrush’s memory of things is really failing. I added one layer back at the top standard division to open the eyes on the mesh. That seems to have been an utter no no. I went into HD Geometry to sculpt some eyebrows. I noticed the mesh was looking different. I had the duplicate of the mesh at its highest division to compare. For whatever reason, Zbrush wound up removing sculpting details that I added to the mesh, not on any layer, but naturally, a couple of weeks ago. Only undoing past the point of adding in that new layer brought it back. I was sure that I came out of record mode on the layer first before doing anything. I tried again and this time, the new layer to move the eyelids open did not affect the sculpting information. I made sure that the layer was out of record mode first. Sooo, I went into HD geometry and sculpted and painted in the eyebrows. I came out, everything looked fine. I was about to save, but I decided to check if turning off the layer with the eyes open would hurt anything. Sure did. It removed all of my sculpting and painting of the eyebrows. The sculpting information is now only there if I go into HD geometry, but even there, the polypaint information is gone.
What in the world??
I just really want one session working with things that aren’t extremely low poly (and even then, sometimes a random crash happens, or something) without a major catastrophe with this and other programs. I feel like my sculpting sessions are cursed…
What is causing this? I know that layers do not work once you are in HD geometry, but can you not even use them for simple mesh movement, or to paint something to check if it works on the standard divisions once you’ve gone HD? I mean, is the whole connection process bugged that way? if so, why is this not stated anywhere specifically?
Or, have I found the only random bug like this ever known? I didn’t find anything in an Google search.
I’ve been fighting the past year not to get discouraged from sculpting, but I swear … I’ve never encountered so much constant fighting every program I work with as I have doing this. So ridiculously stressful.
I’m running Windows 8.1
AMD 6 core processor 3.50 GHz
12 GB ram
So, I don’t think it’s my PC, but then maybe someone knows a secret hatred of AMD by Zbrush that I’m unaware of.
