HD Geometry specific questions

Can you export HD resolution details out via a texturemap?

How would you show the entire model in HD resolution, if this is possible, there seems to be a 10 million cap.

How would you delete the HD resolution details if for some reason you want to. Its pretty apparent on how to do it with normal subdivisions, but there doesn’t seem to be an option for the HD levels.

  1. Not at this time. HD is currently only useable within ZBrush.
  2. The HD “preview” is for sculpting only. As soon as you press A to return to normal mode, ZBrush displays the entire model. But the model is displayed with the HD detail. In other words, you will always see the HD detail. You just can’t edit it all at once.
  3. Clone the model or subtool. The clone will not have HD levels, but will have all regular levels.

My current model has a cap at 2 million polys, level 6 subdivision. If I cloned it would it retain the polygroups and allow me to subdivide it to 10 million, level 7 subdivision?

All that cloning does is delete the HD levels. After that, the mesh works just like normal.

Worked like a charm. I got him up to 9.355 million. However I have a Mem issue.

In Preferences>Mem I can store config the compact mem at say 1973 mb, however it keeps defaulting on the other settings. Maxpolypermesh is set at a low 8.99 and I could use about 10 for a default. However whenver I change the default values and exit the program, it defaults back to 8.99.

How do I permantly change these defaults so I don’t have to keep adjusting this setting?

I’ve never had any problems with my configuration remembering the Compact Mem setting. So long as I actually store the configuration after adjusting the setting, that is.

As for MaxPolysPerMesh, there is a maximum based upon your system’s RAM. You can raise it above that value for a session, but ZBrush will not store a value greater than the recommended maximum.
