Gremlins too!

Hi all,
We sculpted these Gremlins in plasticene way back in 1990, yes 30 years ago, long before ZBrush.
Silicone moulds were made from the sculptures and these are fibreglass copies that were painted and finished and have sat in my studio ever since.
About 4 months ago I got an Artec Eva 3D scanner and have been scanning and archiving loads of creature sculptures that were made at John Cox’s Creature Workshop since 1979.
This is the first one that I have finished and it is available to buy on my ArtStation website store.

In 1990 we were given temporary custody of 2 foam latex background Gremlins and it was this close study that allowed us to replicate the fantastic detail that had been put into these characters made at Rick Baker’s Cinnovation workshop. Our Gremlins were sculpted 33% larger than the original puppets and so there was plenty of detail for the Eva scanner to capture.
After scanning, the model was imported into ZBrush where I retopologised the geometry, increased the density and defined the existing sculpted detail. The colour map is from the original paint finish and has been defined and colour corrected.

I hope this brings back fond memories of those great films.
John
