Looking for suggestions for a graphics card. I have an AMD Athlon 1.3G with 640 MB Ram I believe and 16 MB AGP Graphics which I want to upgrade. I think it could be better and match the rest of the system a little better than it does now. Suggestions please. I don’t want to go ridiculous price wise, but I figured some of you could share positive experiences with your graphics cards.
I have had very good luck with the Xtacy series of cards, based on the GeForce3 chipset.
The best card for you depends upon your needs. But as a rule, something with 64MB of DDR RAM will be a good choice for you without going into massive dollars. Good cards start around $75 and can go to about $150 before you start getting into the expensive, top of the line cards.
Just don’t let nVidia’s wonky naming scheme get you; the GeForce4MX is a tweaked GF2, in case you don’t already know that.
I’d recommend one of the GF4Ti-based XTasy’s, if you haven’t already gotten one. The 4600 is pricey, but there are other variants that are quite inexpensive.
I can’t find it’s version number but there’s a Geforce 3 card that isnt expensive but gets good resulst. I’ll edit this post when I found some info about it.
Incidentally, you can run the GeForce 3 cards with the GeForce 4 drivers. You get a performance increase out of the GF3 that puts it pretty close to an equivalent GF4. Much better value for the money!
Thanks for all of the input. Now to decide.
